Hi semua, terimakasih kerana menyokong boboi selama ini dan kami berharap sokongan anda akan berterusan. biar saya sedikit penjelasan mengenai konsep kumpulan boboi dan apa yang saya dan abg harun sedang cuba lakukan. Sebelum itu, pertama sekali, saya nak cakap yg antara peserta favourite saya (afdlin) dalam MLM adalah Adlin, BP dan kumpulan Hiro... Diorang semua memang lawak dan idea diorang semua best-best. Kita semua berkawan dan memang saling menyokong antara satu sama lain... jadi tak guna org melaga-lagakan kami, pasal kami dah berkawan lama dan kalis laga. Tujuan utama saya dan harun memasuki Maharaja Lawak Mega adalah untuk menghiburkan peminat-peminat kami yang dah lama tak dapat menyaksikan kami berlawak secara live di kaca tv. Awalnya, kami takde niat nak menang pun!... tapi kalau kami dah melakukan yang terbaik dan peminat semua menyokong ... alhamdulillahlah... syukur, rezeki takkan kami tolak, tapi itu bukan niat utama kami.... kami nak happy-happy dan buat peminat kami happy.Baiklah, ramai yg bertanya kepada kami samaada kami akan mengekalkan konsep budak-budak untuk maharaja lawak mega ini. Jawapannya ialah... YA! ini adalah kerana kami memasuki maharaja lawak mega bukan sebagai afdlin dan harun, akan tetapi sebagai boboi. BOBOI adalah brand yang ingin kami kembangkan supaya lepas ini boleh kita buat siri animasi BOBOI, filem BOBOI dan bermacam-macam lagi BOBOI. Bayangkanlah untuk 10 minggu MLM ni anda menyaksikan sitcom BOBOI. Kami tetap akan mengubah cerita-cerita kami untuk menghiburkan anda semua tetapi boboi mesti akan ada. Dan bila ada minggu ada tugasan, seorang akan menjadi org dewasa seorang akan menjadi boboi... contohnya Boboywa membantu CSI Malaysia menyelesaikan misteri kehilangan Boboyot, Boboyot menaiki kapal terbang kos rendah bersendirian dan di jaga stewardess. Boboi pergi tengok konsert Wings, Pokoknya semua sketsa akan ada Boboi!!... tetapi cerita berlainan. Ramai kawan-kawan lain yg akan mempersembahkan lawak-lawak mereka tersendiri dan kalau bagus, kita sokong!! Yang penting hiduplah komedi di Malaysia ini!! Teruskan sokong menyokong pengkarya-pengkarya Malaysia.Saya dan Harun dah lebih daripada 20 tahun di dalam industri ni, kami rasa kami dah tak perlu membuktikan versatiliti kami lagi, kalau nak tengok versatiliti kami tontonlah filem-filem dan rancangan-rancangan tv yg kami dah buat ok.Kami sayang anda semua, tapi percayalah dgn jalan yang telah kami pilih, kami bukan baru mencari tapak, tapi tapak kami yang orang jejak, jadi sebagai OTAI, kami akan terus menghibur anda semua dgn cara kami. Dah lama rasanya tak blogging. Ini semua gara-gara Facebook dan twitter. Sekarang ni tulis pendek-pendek aje dan gua realise keje gua nak layan fans aje. Bukan salah nak layan fans, fans tu sangat penting but gua realise yg gua dah tak bercerita tentang what's in my head lagi. Dan itu sebenarnya gua punya release. to just say whatever the hell i feel like saying or share and not caring about what people want to hear. This is a space where i can work out what is important to me. What matters to me.

I am facing a lot of work stress right now but i think i am handling it ok. hehehe to be truthful, i don't really know. My family life is suffering a bit as well. i am not spending enough time with my loved ones. Good news is i am losing weight. I am losing weight for the purpose of my health and not because anyone says i should.

Having said that, i see a really happening and bright future for me, my family and my vision works family. I thank Allah for making next year the most profitable, most fulfilling and most exciting year for all of us.

I will be sharing my thoughts on the undilah and namewee issue. my latest exploits. my new ideas and way of thinking. My philosophies.

Raja lawak kembali lagi dan saya rasa ini akan menjadi antara musim raja lawak yg terbaik pernah kita tengok! Tapi ada berberapa benda yg agak menyentuh hati gua pada gelanggang pertama hari tu. Sebenarnya gua sedih yang bob lokman pun meninggalkan raja lawak... Gua rasa kehilangan dua kawan baik gua... Bila bob belah dan sebegitu mudah gimmik pemergiannya dan macam tak ada apa apa penghormatan atau penghargaan dibuat... Gua rasa tak best.... Kerana lepas tu fokus di beri kepada

Hari ni rasanya kalau aku berlari laju, aku boleh berjalan atas air... kalau aku try tackle selma hayek... aku pasti akan dapat berpacaran dgn dia... kalau aku memasuki pilihanraya mana-mana pasti aku akan di undi lantas memenangi kerusi yang di pertandingkan. Kalau aku apply jadi menteri penerangan komunikasi dan kebudayaan...Aku confirm dapat. Aku rasa aku akan jadi menteri yang terbaik dan akan dapat menganjakkan industri hiburan aku 20 langkah ke hadapan walaupun aku terpaksa menyakiti hati orang-orang koperat yang sedang menindas seniman dan karyawan di negara ini. Beginilah rasanya bila aku dapat melihat Liverpool mengalahkan Chelsea 2-0 semalam!

Ya Liverpool hanya berada di tangga ke 9 sekarang tapi mereka adalah contoh dan teladan terbaik bagi mereka yang berfikir yang kesusahan tu akan kekal selama-lamanya... Tidak!!... kesusahan tu sekadar pengajaran yang mengingatkan kita yang dgn usaha, sesiapapun boleh mengubah nasibnya!

Selamat menyambut Ramadhan dan Selamat Berpuasa!

Hai Kengkawan yang berada di dalam dan di luar negara. Lama kita tak jumpa kat sini kan. Aku asyik sibuk aje dan kalau nak update pun aku selalu mengupdate facebook dgn twitter aku aje. Sememangnya blog aku telah aku anak-tirikan kerana aku banyak memikirkan samaada blog aku ni relevan lagi ke bagi aku untuk peminat aku mengetahui apa yang berada di dalam minda aku. Sekarang ni blogging dan bloggers sudah di naik taraf kepada status celebriti jika blog kamu tu popular.. Tapi sekarang ni jugak aku rasa blog kita juga sudah mula di awasi oleh pihak-pihak yg gua panggil THE BLOG POLICE. Freedom of speech adalah hak asasi seorang manusia. Kalau apa yang kita fikirkan juga ingin di kawal aku sangat tak bersetuju dgn itu.
Ya kita perlu responsible jika ingin meluahkan perasaan, tetapi responsible itu jangan disalah ertikan sebagai 'Don't rock the boat', Kalau ada sesuatu kesalahan yang berlaku di dunia kita ini, kenapa tak boleh kita suarakan ketidak puasan hati kita. Perbincangan adalah lebih bagus daripada perperangan.

Industri seni aku bukanlah industri yg adil ketika ini. Pihak korporat dan juga pembikin policy menindas anak-anak seni yang berkarya di TV, Filem dan dgn muzik mereka, dgn tidak mengindahkan hakcipta (Intellectual Property) mereka. Secara kesuluruhan, di sebalik glamour dan razzmataz dunia hiburan yg di cipta oleh pihak korporat ini karyawan-karyawan di Malaysia ni sama standard dgn buruh kasar kerana golongan ini boleh dikotak-katik dgn sewenang-wenangnya. Contoh paling utama adalah jika kita shooting filem, bila org yg menjadi producer adalah bukan org seni, bila waktu kena buat bajet, kalau bajet terlalu tinggi, harga pertama yang akan mereka cuba potong adalah harga pelakon, pengarah, penulis!!!...kenapa sebab harga equipment FIXED!!!.... Kos Lawyer... FIXED!!!!.... Kos Insurance FIXED!!!... Harga Lokasi FIXED!!!... I think you get my point.... Jadi orang senilah yang jadi barua... terimalah... apa saja producer cakap pasal nak cari makan... macam pengemis.
Selepas memahami industri ni barulah aku sedar kenapa P.RAMLEE mati miskin dan anak serta warisnya juga tak dapat merasa habuan hasil kerja seniman AGUNG kita. Aku memulakan hidup aku dlm keadaan susah, adakah akhir hidup aku juga akan jadi begitu?

Orang Seni KENA PERGI SEKOLAH kena berpelajaran! supaya tak boleh di perbodohkan oleh gergasi korporat.

Pada pendapat aku ramai org, tak memahami yang kerja seni ni bukanlah seperti pekerjaan lain. Ianya amat berbeza pasal ia susah dinilaikan orang dan hasi karya amatlah subjektif. Ramai org menganggap kerja seni adalah kerja main-main... ITS NOT A REAL JOB! itu yang cuba dikatakan oleh P.RAMLEE dalam filem antara dua darjat... Have we learned anything from that? A little bit... Tapi secara menyeluruhnya tidak. Sehingga karyawan sendiri merendahkan diri mereka kerana kerja aku ni taklah sebagus, akauntan ke lawyer ke. Ini menyebabkan kita senang di eksploitasi. Siapa yang salah kerana hal ini? Golongan artis sebelum ini yang tak FIGHT for their rights!! Mereka terima aje apa yang orang cakap atau beri kat mereka macam peminta sedekah. This is why we need governmental protection. A UNION or minimum wage expectancy.

This is the Era of Content ataupun pengisian. Content should be KING but it is not. Ramai kawan-kawan aku cakap kalaulah AFDLIN SHAUKI ni duduk HOLLYWOOD dah KAYO-RAYO dah EKAU ni HA...(saya ada banyak kawan dari Negeri Sembilan.) Sekarang ni aku masih lagi kais pagi makan pagi. Kalau aku tak kerja, family akau takkan dapat makan , takkan dapat pergi sekolah. Out of all the films i made, i only own the rights to three films. Yang lainnya termasuk PAPADOM semua menjadi hakmilik korporat. My fault? Maybe...TAPI KENAPA? mungkin ada yang bertanya. This is how the business is at the moment . The corporat giants can afford to say TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT! Kalau aku cakap take it or Leave it, konfirm anak-anak aku makan pasir. Sekarang ni the people yang boleh manipulate the content for their benefit is king. Pihak Telco, Stesyen Televisiyen pihak Panggung Wayang adalah dalang utama masaalah industri seni ini. Pada pendapat aku, tidak ada apa yang seniman kita tak boleh buatla kat dunia ni. Kita ada great thinkers among our midst, karyawan-karyawan hebat yang boleh bersaing di taraf dunia, maknanya tidak menjadi masaalah untuk mereka create content yg terbaik.... masaalahnya siapa yang untung dari hasil kerja mereka itu? Di Negara-negara yang sudah membangun orang yang mencipta kontentlah yang akan meraih hasil tertinggi sementara aggregatornya (samaada Telco, Stesyen TV atau Panggung Wayang) mendapat habuan daripada volume jualan hasil seni itu.

The point of sale is our industry's major problem. Saya akan bincangkan hal itu di posting yang lain. Di mana saya akan dedahkan cara permainan gergasi-gergasi korporat ini menekan masyarakat seni kita.

Something needs to be done before we lose more of our karyawan, seniman.... dan juga semua karyawan-karyawan muda yang telah di beri kebolehan oleh ALLAH SWT untuk berkarya. Dia tak bagi kat semua orang kebolehan tu, dan bukan saya minta mereka ini diangkat tinggi, tapi bagi mereka peluang untuk berdiri sama tinggi dgn semua vokasi lain dan berdiri tegak dgn bangganya sambil menyatakan kepada semua..."Ya, Saya ni Pemuzik/Pelakon/Penulis/Pengarah/komposer/Penyanyi dari Malaysia!"

Kepada semua peminat dan juga rakan-rakan saya ingin memohon ampun dan maaf jika ada tersalah kata, terkasar bicara dan apa saja yang tak menyenangkan, sesungguhnya saya hanya insan biasa. Osaka Asian Film Festival 2010” is just around the corner, and the organisers are doing their best to promote “Papadom” during this film festival.
As for me, i would really like more and more people in japan to enjoy the film.

I am sure that many Malaysians who live in the region will be happy to know about the event and would be glad to see something from home.
I would really like for “Papadom” punya screening to be filled with audiences in Osaka. so I call on all malaysians or non Malaysian fans living in japan to make your way to osaka. I would be happy to meet up with you while I am there.

I hear there will also be a Yasmin Ahmad retrospective there, so it is a proud day for malaysians.

Tomorrow I start shooting Appalam and it feels great to be shooting again.... I love to be on set!! Hahaha... Terbaik!

Hi kodoks, It is day three of the Asia Pacific Film festival in the industrial city of Kaohsyiung in SouthernTaiwan and it is cold. Of course we are not as famous as our hongkong, Japanese, Korean, indian, indonesian and thai counterparts but i think our contingent of 15 people are a great fun bunch to be with. Tonight is th awards night, lets see which award Malaysia takes back home tonight. quite exciting stuff. Menarik tertarik ia memang da bomb!!! Here are some photos of our adventure here. Enjoy.

Papadom is papadom.... My Spy is My Spy. Two different movies, two different agendas.

A lot of people have asked me why my latest movie 'My Spy' is not like Papadom and my answer is simple, the niat for each film is different. 'Papadom' was a project which delved in a subject that is very close to my heart, but 'My Spy' is something i did for fun. I just wanted to have fun and transfer that feeling to the viewing audience.

One review actually hit the nail on its head when he said "Leave your brain at home and just enjoy the fun." My SPy is a romp. A journey into frivolous fun like the pink panther, airplane, hotshots, etc. if you are looking for some intellectual discourse and stimulation, My SPy is definitely NOT FOR YOU. this movie was a made with a more rural and sub urban folks in mind.

In truth, when i did 'my spy' i nearly lost faith in making movies in malaysia because the sad truth was, people just love mindless entertainment, That is why the biggest grossing movie in malaysia is a very unscary mindless ghost movie. SO when KRU asked me to do 'MY SPY' i agreed to make a go at making the best produced mindless comedy film in Malaysia. Hahaha....

Yes i am wierd and i love to try new things. I love U-Wei and Arwah Yasmin's work but when i started out i told myself that i wanted to make movies that people watched... So i set out to balance audience satisfaction and good story-telling. I know i cannot be like them because i have a different mindset. i can only be me. i do what makes me feel happy. To feed my curiosity i love to try new things.

So this is it. MY SPY at cinemas near you. chow !!!

Papadom di panggung SEKARANG!!!

Papadom adalah cara saya untuk membawa ketengah satu masaalah besar kehidupan saya yang datangnya dari kelemahan diri saya yang sebenar. Saya takut untuk menjadi macam Saadom tapi cara Saadom bekerja di awal filem PAPADOM adalah saya. Apa yang saadom buat di pertengahan filem adalah apa yang afdlin shauki sanggup lakukan untuk anak dia.

Life is ultimately about balance. Life should be lived well spiritually and physically. These are the things that i still have not managed to achieve in my life. It's like knowing that smoking is bad for you but you cannot stop. I AM A WORKOHOLIC. i have a problem which stems from my passion to create and share my ideas with the world. I know i have I have to prioritize what is important to me but i am a person who believes that whatever i am doing and whomever i love are IMPORTANT. I wish that life was not that hard but i also realise that this is what life is about.

I am nobody special. I am just like you. I am just a man with a bunch of crazy ideas that i would like to see materialize into hopefully an entertaining piece of art. I DOn't know how long more i can keep this up though. I am not getting any younger and this business of trying to entertain people is very tough and taxing on my relationships and not too mention financially sapping especially living in Malaysia. I have to start thinking about my children and be there for them before they don't want me around anymore. They are my gems. What do i do???...

Gua agak confused dengan keadaan sekarang... tetapi gua masih mencari jawapan konflik hidup gua tu.

Papadom is my thoughts and my worst case scenario take on the matter.

Sebelum saya mengundur diri, sekali lagi saya nak mengulangi permintaan saya :

Hi Kodoks of the world, its been a while since i've blogged, i guess primarily out of respect for Yasmin but today i write because the living needs to go on living and real life issues need to be handled. Mungkin ada yang dah pergi menonton filem setem dan rata-rata reviews yang di terima oleh Filem itu amat baik sekali. Ianya diikuti juga oleh kemenangan empat anugerah untuk filem itu di FFM 22 juga membuktikan yang itu adalah sebuah filem yang berkualiti.

The problem is.... and still.... we need more people to go and watch because ticket sales is going really slow. Everyone who have seen it, has been saying great things about it and if you would like to see a seeminglessly inter-racial malay movie that doesn't look like all the other races was put in the movie just for the one malaysia effect, than this is it. A story well told by a great director and a good friend Kabir Bahtia. Kita AMAT memerlukan bantuan anda semua supaya sekurang-kurangnya filem ini pulang modal dan Kabir akan dapat terus berkarya lagi.

Personally, i cannot wait to see what kabir has in store next for us at the cinema, but whatever it is knowing kabir, i know its gonna be good.

So sekali lagi, saya memanggil semua kodok-kodok saya dan cekodok pun boleh jugak... pergilah tengok filem setem di pawagam SEKARANG! dan jika suka, ajaklah dan bagitahu kawan-kawan lain... Apa kata orang ... sharing is caring!!

Kehilangan Yasmin Ahmad. Al-Fatihah!

My mind is so messed up right now, i have to write my thoughts down. At 12am sunday as i am having supper with my wife, Zahim, Pia and some friiends at the Esplanade in Singapore. I received an sms which was later confirmed by her brother that "Yasmin Ahmad had passed away".

I was dumbfounded. My mind felt numb. I knew that after the stroke happened, that things wasn't going that great, but her condition was stable. I wasn't ready for it.

Then it hit me, the magnanimity of the event which was just made known to me...

Today we have lost a great Malaysian.

Today we have lost someone who greatly loves her country and those who live in it.

Today we have lost a great voice of reason....

Today we have lost a mentor.... an inspiration ... a friend.

I use to tell Min that i wish i could be more like her because she was someone who always spoke her mind, especially in her films and being the kind person that she was, she always made you feel better by saying something nice about you. BUT truly to be like her, i believe is so tough especially in this time an era where a lot of people judge your film by the box office collection.Nevertheless, she didn't care, she stayed true to her stories... to how she wanted them to look like.

She told me she didn't want to do art films.... she wants to do mainstream so that the whole world could watch her stories

Some say she invited controversy.... but i feel her intention is more to get people to actually start a dialogue about the issues that she put forth. To get people to deal with issues which are normally swept under the rug. Among many local filmmakers i felt like she was the only mainstream director who had the balls to do that in quite a blatant straight forward manner, rather than colour coat some issues like me and some of my counterparts do.That is why she was special.

I was in Cannes recently and i went to the Singapore Media Development Authority booth and i saw that Yasmin Ahmad had two film projects that was being presented as a Singapore film project. I felt proud & jealous at the same time at what she had managed to achieve as a filmmaker in such a short time. She was truly gifted. But more so, i felt angry that such a talent was recognised more outside her home country rather than in it. I guess once again, in Malaysia, an artiste must die first before her / his work is truly recognised and by that time, it will be to late.

"Jangan bagi banyak sangat kat karyawan kita, nanti diorang besar kepala", maybe that is what is in our cultural belief system. Which is Fucked up. You watch... now that she has passed away.... her films will no longer be under scrutiny and all the unrelease-ables will become release-ables.

What i love about Yasmin was when she was excited to talk about her latest project, she was always drawing from personal experience and was so good at sharing it with us on celluloid. She loved making her films and she loved sharing it with us.

I cannot believe that Yasmin is no longer with us. She was an inspiration, a brave voice in our community and most importantly a kind kind soul. Semoga tuhan mencucuri rahmat ke atas rohnya. Saya harap rakyat Malaysia sedar yang kehilangan kita amat besar hari ini. She was just a friend, but i felt extreme sadness... emptyness at hearing of her passing. I am at a loss for words..

She gave a lot of budding filmmakers a break in the advertising industry (myself included) and always introduced us to all sorts of opportunities and possibilities. She recommended to get me to be the director of the Petronas commercial. Eventually, my first commercial. She shared resources, ideas freely with her friends because you are her KAWAN first before someone who works with or for her.

It was so easy to hear her say "Kesiaan ek!" from my experience of her because she was such a giving and compassionate person who was always cared for those who were in need or wherever an injustice had taken place.

In the film industry, i really looked up to her. As a friend i was really blessed that she let me be in her space. Even if it was a short while.

We will all be the poorer because of her passing.

I will truly miss you old friend... and i will truly miss all the films that you should have made..... you have touched my life and the life of millions, in ways you could never imagine. I thank allah for letting you be with us even if it was just for a while and i pray he takes good care of you, now that she has returned to you.

Till we meet again kind gentle soul.

No words can describe the atmosphere there except that if you are a filmmaker, you feel like you have come home... You feel apart of a bigger cause and purpose. You indeed feel special for being a part of the film fraternity.

Taman Permainan orang kaya eropah. Jahanam punya kaya.

Norman pun lepak kat cannes dgn gua. Dia ni gua respect la pasal memang consummate salesman... rajin dia berniaga.

Buat pertama kalinya, bendera MALAYSIA di layangkan di Palais di Cannes sewatu Cannes Film Festival. Aku melinang air mata penuh kebanggaan.

Minggu lepas baru pulang dari Bangkok dengan filem PAPADOM dan gua boleh confirmkan yang filem ini sudah siap 100% dan menunggu tayangan di panggung. Filem ini juga akan layak memasuki Filem Festival Malaysia Tahun ini kerana ianya akan sempat dimasukkan sebelum tarikh tutup penyertaan.

Tak lupa juga sempat pergi tengok kawan baik gua Adlin Aman Ramlie Berkahwin kat ipoh bersama Imelda.

Satu perkahwinan yang amat nostalgic dan indah sekali.Aku doakan diorang berkekalan ke anak cucu cicit dan seterusnya. So happy for them.

Saw Harith and Douglas Lim do standup last thursday. They rocked NO BLACK TIE . Looking at them i realised how much I miss performing and how much i desperately need to perform. Insya allah CUCI THE MUSICAl which is coming up in October will provide an awesome return to the stage for me. I am excited to see how that turns out.

And now for something completely personal. My family is currently away in Sabah, now i personally have been away from my family from long periods at a time but i think this time i'm feeling the loneliness. My timing sucks i guess, when they are here... i have to travel and be away... but when i'm in town, they have to be awayThe guys at the office all have something to do. My production team is also busy doing other stuff And i just realised that eventhough i meet so many people, i don't have many friends. Hahaha. What a price to pay for being Me but this has been the life i Chose.

I feel i need a change. I must change and i will change.I am changing.

By the way something that i am very proud of, i have lost about 9 kilos for the last 4 weeks by changing my diet and starting some exercise. i am going to lose weight and i will be fit for cuci the musical.

If we believe, we can do anything.

Industri muzik adalah sesuatu yang amat dekat di hati gua. Gua di lahirkan dengan hasil muzik bapa gua yang merupakan seorang pemuzik jazz lama punya yang bermain keyboard dan piano. Penglibatan gua secara professional dalam industri muzik juga adalah sebagai Penyanyi. Menyanyi bersama Shiela Majid, Zainal Abidin, Allayarham Zubir Ali, Amir Yusoff, Azman Warren dan Prema Lucas. Di situ jugalah gua bertemu dengan member baik gua PACAI, bekas pemain bass ekamatra.

Pendek kata kalau industri muzik ini boleh menampung keluarga gua, mungkin gua tak masuk dalam bidang perfileman. Dan sebab itu juga semua filem gua, gua mengambil kesempatan untuk menulis sekurang-kurangnya satu lagu agar dapat melepaskan rindu terhadap dunia yang memang gua sayang sangat.

U-wei pernah berkata pada gua masa dia tengok gua perform at one of the clubs in KL dulu (sewaktu tu gua belum lagi terfikir pun nak jadi filmmaker), Apa you boleh capai sebagai pemuzik dalam 5 minit, aku perlukan 2 jam untuk menyampainya kepada penonton. Sekarang ni aku dah jadi macam dia.

Tapi fikirkan the POWER of a good song dan bagaimana ia boleh memberi efek kepada mood kita, keperibadian kita, serta semangat kita. Ia trbukti yang lebih ramai orang lebih minat mendengar muzik daripada ceramah. Sebab itulah kerajaan mengambil keputusan untuk ban lagu-lagu yang bersifat terlalu politikal, ekstremis serta boleh menyonsangkan .... tetapi malangnya kita punyai budaya yang tak suka menghargai apa yang kita suka, sehinggalah ianya tiada pada suatu hari nanti. Band-band seperti Meet Uncle Hussein, Hujan, Estranged dan banyak lagi akan pupus kerana tidak ada sokongan sepertimana band-band baik seperti Innuendo, VE dan banyak lagi. Jadi bila0 kita dah tak ada band-band ini barulah lengkap dominasi muzik luar dalam negara ini dan syarikat-syarikat rakaman gergasi di Malaysia ini akhirnya berjaya dalam objektif mereka yaitu untuk menjual artis-artis antarabangsa sahaja.

pada ketika inilah kita patut mencontohi industri muzik indonesia dan thailand yang walaupun apa berlaku, apresiasi mereka pada industri tempatan mereka amat kuat. We can do it too.

Beli muzik tempatan yang anda suka! jangan beli cetak rompak! Jangan muat turun secara haram, kalau betul minat sokonglah member-member gua dalam industri muzik. KITA BOLEH MELAKUKANNYA DAN BANGKIT DARI KEMELUT INI.

Lama tak blogging. Hidup lebih penting. banyak hal kena attend. Artis dalam diri gua dah lama tidur. Ushawan dalam diri gua, tak cukup tidur. Jiwa kosong seketika. Industri filem masih macam tu. takde perubahan. Lobby dah kuat. tapi hasil tak ada.

Gua tengah shoot Kapoww dengan Azizi Chunk. Sebuah filem superhero yang di bintangi Zizan Raja Lawak. Looks like a lot of FUN. Lisa SuriHani is cute, cun and hot. I like Zizan he is hardworking commited and tak betul. Awie is osso in it. He is Ultraman Kelantan. hahaha Rabak SIot.

Latiff adik Prof. says my films are 'komedi orang puteh' dan tidak cater to 'true Malays'. WHATEVER latiff!!! Kau buat filem kau aku buat filem aku sudahlah...Niat kau dengan niat aku lain. Aku taknak kaya sambil memperbodohkan bangsa aku. Biarlah aku tak kaya pun takpe. Kalau box office jadi pengukur kau... kaulah juara.... SIFU dan Tongga. Syabas. Filem yang membanggakan.....???? Filem kau memang sesuai utk target market kau- bebudak. The true mass market bro. Filem gua di targetkan kepada golongan dewasa sikit kut. So lets just agree to be different.

Yasmin you are right about the language issue. There are more things in film that we can do that transcends language. I understand that. I love films in other languages too. I'd go watch it. But even Oliver Stone quoted Winston Churchill in the forum the other day, when asked wether Asian films can make it big Internationally, he said that "You guys are dreaming, it will never happen because We have the most powerful weapon in the world, The English language!"... In building a strong local film industry, i still believe we are severely handicapped because the mass is not united by a common language, so just mostly a fraction of the Malays watch malay films. English movies (besides being big budget) get big box office in Malaysia because The other MASS MARKET which includes all races, really like Tom Cruiise, Leonardo DiCaprio, Violence, sex, gore and most importantly they understand the English language. But i am tired and bored of talking about the industry.... I will just keep on doing my silly komedi orang puteh until nobody wants to watch it anymore.

Lastly Kabir Bahtia, has a rocking new film called 'SETEM' .Terbaik Jack. He is such a talented director and a great storyteller and i hope you all give him the support by watching this film. The trailer dah keluar kat YOUTUBE. SO CHeck it up guys.

'WAJIB TAYANG' for the uninformed. Something you must know if you love Malaysia and Malaysian Films.

Some friends went to cinema today and saw a queue of people waiting to see LOS dan FAUN but alas they were all turned away because just after 3 weeks of showing, it has been pulled out by the cinemas to make way for the other wajib tayang films to come in....twillight which started one week earlier is still playing strongly at the cinemas today.

First of all, for those of you who don't know what the 'WAJIB TAYANG' ruling is, let me give you a brief history of what the wajib tayang system is. Wajib tayang is a system that was put into place to protect local film producers from being sidelined in the big money business of film screenings in Malaysia. This is because of the many imported foreign films that are allowed to screen in this country with their great big hollywood or bollywood or hongkongwood budgets, coupled with their huge marketing budgets, would simply just overrun our miniscule industry. If that were allowed to happen then we might as well just say bye-bye to the local film industry and to the scores of film workers who are striving hard to make a living in this country. So for Mahyiddin Mustakim the Ketua Pengarah of Finas to say that 'wajib tayang' has helped many local film companies succeed in the comments of his recent newspaper article, i would agree to that, but the question i raised is wether these old rules are still applicable and pertinent to the current face of the industry today and if not, then 'KEMASKINI-KAN-NYA 'or change it for the better. Why should anybody get defensive about this, aren't we working for the same thing, towards the same goal. I want a better wajib tayang sistem for all, not to do away with the damn thing.

I myself look for the shelter of wajib tayang for my film for without it surely it doesn't stand a chance against the big boys of the US of A. Hence it is safe to say that i as a responsible film worker in this industry, am thankful that there is a wajib tayang skim. But as in all good things, as time changes, the equation to all sums start to change too due to socio, economic and political maturity and growth. So in short, the wajib tayang needs to be looked at again HARD and something radical must be done soon. If not the film industry will go the same way as our local music industry.

Some of you are asking right now, can't the local film industry survive without this wajib tayang thingy? the answer is NO. because we just do not have the money to do battle with the hollywood giants in term of advertising and marketing. Their ratio is pretty much 1 to 1, which basically means if my movie cost usd100 million to make then the marketing i allocate will be usd100 million as well, in malaysia in general, if a movie cost rm1.2 million to make i have left a budget of about rm300 thousand to market. Now thats like bringing a shoe to a gunfight. No matter which president you hit with that shoe, i bet his hospital bill won't be as high as treating your multiple gunshot wounds. No wonder as i travel from the LCCT back to the city centre after a short stint in kota kinabalu, i really didn't feel the love from finas' motto 'Filem kita wajah kita' as i saw all the billboards that had films advertising on it were showing upcoming Foreign Film titles, reminding us when it is going to be on OUR cinemas. That's when i came out with my own new motto ,'Filem Dia, Billboard Kita'.

Why are there not so many upcoming local film titles on billboards?... the answer is ...We can't afford it!!! Or at least not most of us. Not with our miniscule budget. Who should pay for some of this ADS, billboards or otherwise?... Our partners the exhibitors/cinemas who make 50% of our ticket collection just for showing our films in the cinema.

Is it just a Malaysian problem? The answer is again NO. Besides Hollywood, Bollywood and Maybe Japan, most countries' film industry needs some sort of helping hand or protectionism from the hollywood machine. If not, there will be no more local stories that is a signature of our time and culture that we and our children's grand children can refer to god willing. CHINA is a great advocator of this 'wajib tayang' but being a great and proud nation, theirs have so much zest and power. Recently they banned' the dark knight' one of the biggest film in the world to date, because simply, it showed the chinese people in a bad light and they did not want that kind of branding for its people. More power to you China. If the muslims in this world were more ready to stand up and say no to Hollywood branding them as terrorists maybe the word muslims wil not be synonymous with terrorism. I believe that china only allows 20 foreign films a year and the rest is for their locally produced films. South Korea in an attempt to win market share from the hollywood machine to help their fledgling film industry, any cinemas that want to operate there must play local films for 100 out of their 365 screening days in each cinema (or something like that). Great Britain for instance has a film commision which overlooks and helps its film industry by collecting the taxes from the national lottery to pass on to the filmmakers. Britain also does not have hollywood films open in britain the same day as the US. They allow local british films to take centre stage during summer releases so that it can gain the maximum number of viewers.

Can Malaysian films survive without a new form of wajib tayang or some other form of protectionism? In my humble opinion the answer is NO. Now, being on the outside It is easy to argue that we should let the free market decide on what films should make it and which one should bomb. Usually i would wholeheartedly agree with that position but if only we were on the same level playing field with the foreign film, if we also had hollywood budgets, if we also had the whole world as our market.... but alas currently OUR market (in Malaysia) is the only market that we can see any semblance of a Return on Investment for the monies put into our movies. But now, even that is in threat because the cinemas make more money from foreign films than local films. MATI dik...

All these countries however have one thing in common. Except for Great Britain, people from most of the countries mentioned,mainly speak their mother tongue and a bit of english. Hence when a local film comes out almost everyone goes because they understands the language.

It is a sad thing but Malaysia here is a country which lacks a solid identity. An identity that is defined through LANGUAGE. Although the beauty of malaysia is it's diversity and colourful mixture of races we are still not bound by one single thread which should have been.... our national language, Bahasa Malaysia. ( the only reason i am writing this entry in english is that some of you might not get the full impact of my arguments because of the lack of understanding for the language) We can argue till the cows come home but the data shows that foreign films are watched by all races including the malays but Malaysian films are watched by mostly a fraction of the malays. Imagine a malaysia that has every race proud to speak its national language and can watch anything in the malay language. Impossible you say, look at the trengganu, kelantanese chinese and indians, On a more international scale look at indonesia.

And then there is the question of local films being a major part for documenting our culture and heritage. We must do it even if it means making less money from taxes on foreign films because the number of foreign films coming into the countries are reduced.

So what has all this got to do with the malaysian wajib tayang situation you ask?

Peraturan-peraturan Perbadanan Kemajuan Filem Nasional Malaysia (Skim Wajib Tayang ) 2005 berkuatkuasa pada 23 Jun 2005. Skim ini diwujudkan bertujuan untuk menerima dan mempertimbangkan mana-mana filem tempatan atau filem usahasama untuk ditayangkan secara wajib didewan wayang gambar oleh pemamer

Pempamer hendaklah menayang filem yang diluluskan:

1.selama empat belas hari berturut-turut; dan di dewan wayang gambar yang terbesar

PROBLEM : This didn't happen during the last two months of the year and last year because it was decided by wajib tayang that there were too many malay films so each local filem only had about one week in the main hall before another malaysian film came in. During the peak periods of the year either during summer or the year end school holidays where there are many big hollywood films as soon as our fourteen days are up... we are shown the door to either the streets or a smaller hall. Both are bad news for local producers.

2.Walaubagaimanapun penayangan sesuatu filem yang diluluskan boleh ditukar dari dewan gambar yang terbesar kepada suatu dewan gambar yang lebih kecil jika:

a.bilangan penonton adalah kurang daripada tiga puluh peratus daripada jumlah keseluruhan tempat duduk dalam dewan wayang gambar itu selepas empat hari pertama tayangan berturut-turut; atau

PROBLEM : These figures can be manipulated because there is no surefire system in place to tell wether the final tally for ticket sales are for real or fabricated. I worry that without a proper system in place, investors and businessmen would shy away from this industry.

b.bilangan penonton adalah tidak kurang daripada lima belas peratus daripada jumlah bilangan tempat duduk dalam dewan wayang gambar itu selepas tiga hari pertama tayangan yang berturut-turut.

c.Jikalau bilangan penonton kurang daripada 15% pemamer bolehlah atas budi bicaranya menarik balik penayangan filem yang diluluskan

PROBLEM : Some local films are bad enough they don't deserve the time of day but if we let just the numbers decide, some good films which might not have enough marketing mullah or even one which doesn't appeal immediately to the masses or not mass friendly ie. not a horror or mindless comedy and which probably needs more time for its' sales to pick up steam through word of mouth, cannot do so because this clause lets the cinema pull the film out because of sales figures.

3.Pempamer hendaklah mengemukakan suatu laporan mengenai apa-apa pertukaran dewan wayang gambar atau penarikan balik mana-mana filem yang diluluskan kepada Jawatankuasa dan peserta dalam masa dua hari dari pertukaran tersebut.

KELAYAKAN

1.Pengeluar filem atau pemamer.

2.Filem tempatan atau filem usahasama

* ‘Filem Tempatan’ bermaksud filem yang diterbitkan di Malaysia atau mana-mana tempat lain oleh warganegara Malaysia atau suatu syarikat yang diperbadankan di Malaysia yang majoritinya sahamnya dipegang oleh warganegara Malaysia.

* ‘Filem Usahasama’ ertinya apa-apa filem yang dikeluarkan di Malaysia secara usaha sama antara warganegara Malaysia atau syarikat yang diperbadankan di Malaysia yang majority sahamnya dipegang oleh warganegara Malaysia dengan mana-mana warganegara asing atau mana-mana syarikat yang tidak diperbadankan di Malaysia

So like it or not guys you literally have within 2 weeks before a local film is already in the danger zone for decreased shows or even being pulled out altogether. You cannot wait!! if you love this industry and believe there is something worth fighting for, you need to help us help the country so it doesn't become a completely foreign film market. That is why you CANNOT WAIT too long (not more than 2 weeks before you guys go to the cinema to support local films. Because it would probably not be playing already. Hence the disappointment of the people in the queue is due to my movie not being a mass market hit and the wajib tayang rule in motion.

Do i watch foreign films? Yes i do and i really love some of them like all of you, but there are also many that are a waste of time, and taking our much needed space.The cinemas would just put on as many they can because to them, they make more money with foreign film. Malaysian films they put on because they have to, by law. I Thank god for that law but i do believe the government and PFM must implement some changes to it so as the local producers will survive.

Try catching a good Malaysian film and you will see that there are some good stuff out there. My mantra has alway been... you never know until you try. And even if you've tried it once and didn't like, it doesn't hurt to try again. hahaha.

Are there crappy Malaysian films out there? Yes there are but there is also a MOVEMENT of local filmmakers trying to make better quality films that must be given a chance and supported. Given a choice, i would not take any crap at all but if i had to choose from local crap and foreign crap.... i would take shovelfuls of the local stuff. Because at the end of the day Malaysia wins. The money stays in Malaysia and Malaysian mouths would be fed.

I am not sure that i agree with a price increase in Foreign film ticket prices because i believe the root of the problem is to try and get MORE people to believe in MALAYSIAN films first. To gain their confidence, to make them believe there is something worthwhile to save.The price increase may have a backlash effect on the local film industry as money becomes more scare in an economic slowdown, people will be more choosy of what they watch and will want to get maximum satisfaction from their limited resource, they might still opt to watch a usd100 million production as opposed to a RM1.5million production... because they get more value for their money. This would be true for a lot of people, if not all. I agree that if a mercedes benz cost just as much as a proton, no protons would be sold but if the mercedes was increased in price not necessarily everyone would start buying protons as some would think about reliability, some safety, some prestige and still opt for the mercedes. The rest will buy the proton because of necessity. But people don't see Malaysian films as necessity.. to them its 'just entertainment' so i think we would still lose. wouldn't it be better to go on a campaign to show malaysians that our products now are getting better eventhough it comes from MALAYSIA.

As an active member of the Local filmmaking fraternity these are my suggestions on what steps can be taken to make our industry... of course they are open to discussion, i am no mr know it all, but i have my opinions.

1.Reduce the number of foreign films coming into the country. Take the good leave out the crappy. You could always STILL get these films and other local films another new malaysian culture that nobody seems to be serious about eradicating, PIRATED DVDS. The best original COPY in the world.

2.Have campaigns, even at grassroot levels to get people to see why malaysian films are an important culture and nation building tool. Spend PFM or government allocated funds to MEMBUDAYAKAN FILEM MALAYSIA.

3.STRESS THE IMPORTANCE OF OUR NATIONAL LANGUAGE AT ALL LEVELS. LET BAHASA MALAYSIA BE OUR GLUE THAT MAKES US RECOGNISABLE AS ONE NATION.

4.Give priority to Malaysian films. Don't open foreign films on thursday. Open them on Monday, people who love Hollywood films will still go, but give at least give the opening weekend to a local film.

5.Let's not let this Multi million dollar industry be one that is solely based on trust between the cinemas and the producers. Put in place measures to make the cinemas be transparent about ticket earnings. If they are business partners let them be true business partners by safeguarding all parties interests. Put in place laws that make the cinemas accountable for things that are out of the ordinary like cinema halls not being full when they are turning people away at the counter, A centralised computer ticketing system overseen by an independant body maybe like Ernst and Young or even FINAS. The system is already in use by several restaurant chains, other franchise type business which work on royalties, so why not implement it to the cinemas. Give access to up to date ticket sales as the tickets are sold to local producers so we can monitor takings and allow us to plan our marketing better.

There is a bigger battle here to be fought and the sooner people realise that film is not mere entertainment but a part of our culture that needs to be protected for generations to come, the sooner we will become a greater and progressive nation.

To those of you who think we get rich doing this... You must be some kind of stupid.
Having said that the film workers in malaysia make an honest decent living just like the rest of you working in banks, architectural firms etc...and this multi million dollar industry is a legitimate one (but no banks besides the SME bank would touch us production houses), it is a high risk and high stakes business.
We (filmmakers) are the other kind of stupid, because we let our passion rule so that we can create the best possible work that we can give at the expense of our financial stability.

Agree or disagree, these are my views.

Assalamualaikum,

First of all let me thank all of you for supporting my work in Malaysia.

Being an artiste here, it has been a pleasure for me to be a part of an industry building exercise to make better and exciting entertainment scene. Although the task can be daunting and tiresome at times. Tapi nak buat macam mana, THIS IS WHAT I LOVE TO DO!!!

In doing so, however, i know that i cannot make everyone happy with what i present to them because then we would all be robots with no free will. l can only do what i can do best which is to propogate my 'oUt OF thE bOx' and entertaining brand. It might not be for everyone, but for those who like it, you will be getting my best work at this time.

There are many naysayers out there and it is their choice but frankly, they all can kiss my a**, i 'm not forcing anyone to like me or like what i do... there is a reason for you being given the power of choice. To choose what you like and not to force what you like on others. Once again, i just want to iterate that i'm fine with some people who say they don't like my work. I'm open to that.

I will forever be a student of life and film making and will continue to do it even if one person is willing to watch my work.

All i want to do is give my best, by sharing my vision of how my stories should be told.

It is a hard and sometimes unrewarding task and if i was smarter, i should be doing movies like Prof. Razak, David Teoh and Ahmad Idham.I would have money coming out of my a**, but i guess i'm not that smart.

Walau pun dunia ku masih berlalu dan hidupku masih berjalan lancar... aku sangat terganggu dengan kejadian tanah runtuh di bukit antarabangsa tempoh hari. Pada aku, patutkah sesuatu perkara seperti itu masih berlaku di dalam zaman serba modern yang kita alami ini. Tidakkah kita belajar apa apa dari kecuaian kita sewaktu highland towers dulu... Tidakkah badan-badan tertentu mengambil apa-apa tindakan untuk memastikan perkara seperti ini tidak berlaku lagi....

Aku rasa mereka- yang tinggal di banglo yang tertimbus itu ... semestinya tak menyangka yang rumah yang mereka anggap sebagai tempat paling selamat itu sebenarnya akan akhirnya menjadi perangkap pabila kejadian itu berlaku. Kenapa???... Kenapa sampai kita sekarang ni tak boleh rasa selamat, walaupun dalam persekitaran rumah kita sendiri. Aku bingung , marah dan sedih.

Yang sangat mengganggu aku adalah kenapa kejadian ini tidak di beri coverage meluas oleh siaran-siaran tv.... pada hari kejadian. Rancangan tv semua masih lagi happy-happy dan takde urgency untuk melaporkan malapetaka yang amat penting itu. Hari ini barulah ada liputan diakhbar-akhbar... tetapi apa sudah berlaku dengan siaran-siaran tv gempak kita? Tak cukup pentingkah tragedi ini... sehingga hari ini baru nak keluar tv.... TNB hanya akan hantar generator pada hari selasa petang... untuk penduduk-penduduk yang terperangkap. APa ni???. Kenapa lama sangat??...

takziah kepada yang telah kehilangan... doaku sentiasa bersama mu ketika ini.

Satu benda yang gua suka adalah pemikiran luar kotak. Tak kiralah apa bentuk pun dan gua agak seronok jugak kerana pertama sekali sekarang mempunyai satu team yang agak biol jugak kepala mereka dalam perlaksanaan pemasaran filem terbaru gua Los dan Faun. Rupa-rupanya bukan aku aje sewel tapi mereka semua sewel jugak!!! hahahaha .... aku suka. Hi gang, setelah lama sibuk dengan kerja-kerja untuk mencari sesuap nasi, pada bulan ramadhan ini aku kembali bebas untuk memblog sekali lagi. Alhamdulillah. Mungkin ramai yang tertanya kemana menghilangnya gua.
Sebenarnya dalam berberapa bulan ini banyak perubahan yang berlaku dan banyak benda baru telah ku cuba. Aku akan cuba huraikan satu persatu supaya dapat kita amati bersama produktiviti aku setakat ini.
Since kita semua tengah bersemangat PUASA apa kata kita mulakan dengan dua program raya yang sempat gua hadiri lantas melepaskan tanggungjawab gua untuk muncul di kaca tv waktu raya ni. Program pertama ialah 'RAYA BERSAMA FARAH', di mana ak dapat bersama girlfriend (didalam mimpi ku) Farah Fauzana , heehee ... entah apa hal tapi aku sukakan cara dia bergurau senda dan peribadinya... A bagi term minat aku kat dia sebagai 'Professional Crush' hehehe...

Hello 'SEPI' from Bangkok.

I am really excited about this thursday for it is the opening of Kabir Bahtia's movie SEPI. Honestly, i feel its been a while since we have had a malaysian cinema experience which takes us through the range of the human experience. I cannot be in KL right now as i am finishing my movie Los dan Faun and will not be back until sunday but i hope this movie is watched by all the family as it will make us appreciate the ones we love more. I know it is a tall claim but i believe this is really good malaysian film and everbody should go watch it. KUDOS to Media Prima and grand brilliance for taking the big risk of doing a dramatic film again.

What i feel about the movie busines......is that we are heading towards the right direction but we must be steadfast. We are starting to make better films but the problem is that we are in a catch 22. Because a lot of malaysians speak english, like it or not, we are competing with the giant hollywood machinery. the question is how the hell do we do that?

Besides having some great filmmakers, countries like thailand, korea, japan and Indonesia have a thriving film industry because the majority of their population are non english speaking and they rely on local content for entertainment. Even most big hollywood releases are dubbed into their language in order to make big money. When more people watch their local films, filmmakers get bigger budgets to make better quality films with bigger themes and cast, we don't get that because our people are divided by language and not everybody takes the bahasa malaysia as a bahasa kebangsaan seriously. We even have so many MALAYS who even proudly exclaim that "I don't watch malay movies!!!". True that is your preference, but that attitude is also like saying that nothing good can ever be done by my countrymen...so i will not give them the time of day.

So what happens when someone with limited funds, especially after the oil price hike, has to choose between The incredible hulk and Apa kata hati? or Sepi and Hancock?. What happens is, we lose everytime. why? because the mass mentality is why should i pay 10 bucks for a 1.5 million ringgit movie when i can watch a 120 million dollar film. For your information, a big hollywood film in malaysia can make up to 13 million ringgit, where a local film makes on average 2.5 million ringgit.

Can we compete? I believe we can, other asian countries have done it, but we have to find our thing. Our edge. our identity.

Our films need an identity, something that will make us standout for being us rather than a cheap immitation of a hollywood production. The industry really just kick started itself about a decade ago after a long hiatus and we are on the road to getting to that identity. A new consciousness a new conscience. To get something that will make a german watching a movie on a flight to dubai say to the filipino stewardess on qatar airways "do you have any malaysian films?"

As filmmakers and producers however, we cannot just make films for the sole reason of making money. we must make better films that has a conscience too. Something that is commercial, tells a good story and makes the viewer feels something about himself or his surrounding. It is our responsibility. Business people mostly don't believe in that, so the government needs to help through this trying time by acknowledging the arts as being as important as being any other professional and not a kerja main-main. Imagine life without art, without culture... i'm sad to say that our society is heading that way. Because we are all starting to subscribe to a new god ...MONEY.

I watch most of the malay films that come out and i admit, some of them are pretty bad... but to be fair, some of them are decent bordering on great. I make the effort because i care about the industry and the country, and in the off chance there is a gem in our midst. There are some interesting filmmakers coming through to the mainstream ranks from the indie scene and this i feel will make the industry stronger.

Hollywood has also proven to us over time that, big budget does not always translate to good movies. Even some of the big budgeted hollywoods film i have watched over the years, end up in the "what the f#*k?" category BUT because their marketing budget is humongus, and they understand emotional marketing and how to get under our mind and our skin, the news about their movie being released is imprinted into our minds. while our film get "dah keluar ke filem tu?" response.

Making a movie is only half the battle. many producers don't understand that, most producers don't have the funds to realize the other half. we still have a lot to learn but we must and will persevere to make malaysian movies great... for what we do is important. we need to learn more, we need to be more professional and we need to not compromise too much.

Think about it. give malaysian movies a chance....i believe there is something there for all of us.

our lives is an occasion! let's rise to it.

Assalamualaikum and Wazzap?

I am back guys, sorry tak sempat nak berblogging selama ini tapi busy gila. i miss you all but most of all i miss my sanity. Yes folks, blogging makes me sane. membuat aku boleh bernafas sementara.

Gua baru aje habis buat AIM bersama yang tercantek dan berbakat Adibah Noor. I just want to say that i had a lot of fun working with such a talented person as Adibah and would definitely do it again in a blink of an eye. The bands were great. But the tribute song tu went a bit salah though with the very talented and popular singers all at some point forgetting their lyrics except for MAWI (who's voice was so salah that nite.)

Assalammualaikum and Hello kepada rakyat Malaysia Baru. Tanggungjawab anda telah pun anda penuhi, anda telah memilih apa yang anda mahukan, sekarang ni tibalah masanya untuk kita bersama kembali to make this country a safe and wonderful place again. Don't forget, we still haven't found that little girl that went missing a while back. Let's hope that the new central govt and new state govt.s can play nice for all our sakes. Its time to put our egos aside and focus on the bigger picture our beloved country, Malaysia.

Anyway some quick updates. I hurt my foot while at the JPJ toilet, so tak glamour but there was this lubang on the floor of the mens toilet and my leg fell through it. Doktor kata that my tendons could be koyak and ask me to put on this aircast for 6 minggu. My mother however had other plans and dia ajak ustaz ni datang rumah untuk ubat i ala alternative medicine using MERCURY.... at first gabra jugak i, pasal benda tu kan poisonous, tapi selepas dia bagi gua reasoning dia iaitu..."it takes a thief to catch a thief"... It takes poison to chase out poison.So this ustaz has the ability to command the mercury to seek all the ailments in your body and with the will of Allah cure it. Lemme know what u think of that.

A little while back, i had the good fortune to meet a member of the '21 Jump Street' cast member Dustin Nguyen who was introduced to me by the Petra group as they are backing him in helping him bring his script to the hollywood silver screen. it is an action feature film called 'MONKS ON FIRE' to be shot vietnam and possibly here. this could be the beginnings of me fulfilling my ultimate dream. Insya'allah.

I also recently had the opportunity to go to the Phillipines to test out what i think is the future of filmmaking on the planet. the format is called ultra high definition and the camera is called

the red camera and it rocks like a mutha. Terbaik gambar dia, empat kali lebih besar dari resolusi high definition kerana dia berformat 4k.

My DOP heil is one lucky dude because he was the first person to actually do tests on the camera two days after it arrived in the phillipines.

There is only 2 of its kind in Asia, one is in japan and one is in the phillipines. there is a one and a half year waiting list for the camera as it is not only better quality, it is also 1/5 th the price of full blown hd cameras that are now on the market. I plan to use this camera for my last feature film that i will direct in malaysia called 'PAK PACAK'. After that i will concentrate on more tv work or unless there is a major change in the way the film business is run here in malaysia. we need change there too. INDUSTRI FILEM BARU!!!!! is what we need. i hope it comes.

A kind word though has to be said about a local film company called Tayangan unggul,

the producer of my movies Baik punya cilok, Papadom. Although they are also a business that also look at the financial aspects when it comes to filmmaking, they have given opportunities to many new directors with way out ideas and helped bring many visions to life, even though at times they were a bit risque. For that i thank you guys and i'm sure the industry thanks you too.

I just received some shocking news.... a sister of a friend of mine kene stroke at the age of 34. holy fReaking Krap!!! that's 2 years younger than me.... i want all of us to reflect on this and see how we should affect our lives based on this news. FRAKK. I promise myself at the beginning of the year that i will take better care of myself and i will do more to ensure that i get to see my kids have children.

Congratulations to Hans, who's movie made over rm 2.2 million at the box office despite some naysayers saying the movie wouldn't go beyond 1.5. it should have been more and we will fight the people who try to make us fail and fail bro. there are those who are out there who are beyond the law it seems and we will stop them and they will fall hard. The rakyat has shown anything can happen right.

Anyway have a great March guys may ur days be filled with love and rainbows, insya'allah.

Afdlin bersama dua bintang filemnya yang akan datang Steven Rahman 'LOS dan FAUN' dan Liyana Jasmay 'PAPADOM'.

Thank you, to those of you who applied for the 'pengurus' post. As it was quite an urgent matter, we managed to fill that position when i met up with an old acquaintance who use to do marketing for me during BULI BALIK. Her name is Aina and she will be handling my matters from now on. Once everything is cleared, i will be posting her new number for anyone who needs to get in touch with me.

The internship is however still on, so those of you interested to work with me on my next movie please write in. The experience will be priceless i promise u that. Either u will love movie making or u will hate it.

Saya amat excited sekali, menghadapi Pilihanraya 8hb Mac ini dan saya menyarankan semua rakyat malaysia to make a difference and VOTE, this should be the most important thing in your agenda as a Malaysian this year. Aku sekarang ni tengah melalui perjalanan penggambaran sebuah filem berjudul 'STAMP'. Filem ini diarah oleh sahabat lama aku dari zaman Bila Larut Malam aku, Khabir Bahtia. Khabir is an Indian director from india who moved to Malaysia during the Antah UTV days and fell in love with Malaysia (or maybe the possibility of work here was higher, heehee...), got married here and never went back. A very talented director, it was just a matter of time before he started directing films, i used to tell myself that, because of his vision, he will definitely make a fine filmmaker and sure enough, his first break came when he was offered to direct 'CINTA'. Love it or hate it, the movie won accolades and another star was born in the Malaysian Film industry. He is now directing his fourth feature after CINTA (LOVE) versi Indonesia and SEPI (in which i had the pleasure to work with him too). Not only has He got a great eye for story telling but his strength also lies in his ability towork with actors well. STAMP is a really fun story ala OCEAN 11, meets lock, stock and two smoking barrels macam tu la. It stars Me, Rashidi Ishak (my buddy from my first acting gig with Shuhaimi Baba, 'MIMPI MOON'), His wife; the wonderful Vanidah Imran, Que Haider, Indi Nadarajah (from 'Indi and Alan' fame and last seen as Mr Leong in Hans Isaac's CUCI). It was supposed to star MAYA KARIN as well but she pulled out due to scheduling Issues. Personally i think it is going to turn out to be a great film.

BUt a lot goes into making a movie and to get an amalgam of ideas to become one huge cohesive feature film requires a lot of effort and sacrifice. As an Actor , i question wether i still have what it takes to layan the trials and tribulations of making a movie. The truth is, although i can do the work, i am not happy being on this set. I am not sure wether age has made me a crankier person or having been doing this for a while, i really have expected a certain standard or level of treatment for actors, Who for the large part of the entertainment industry are treated like crap by producers. To make it worse, They get no respect from anyone; The public, corporations, the government. No laws protect or help regulate wages for actors. People want entertainment but do not respect the people who make it. As creative people, our Intelectual Property rights in this country is a big joke and currently resides in the longkang. So, after all that, is it wrong that we ask for a little politeness and thoughtfullness at our work space.

I am feeling kind of strained and stressed out being on set and working with some of his production team who doesn't seem to have any inkling on how to handle people on set. This is the first time i have actually felt like murdering somebody for being rude and inept. I however take a lesson from all this, which is, getting a good team to work with is a priceless thing

Maybe its time to hang up the acting boots and concentrate on directing. That i really love.

Rasanya baru sahaja tahun baru bermula, tapi pada bulan januari sahaja sudah berberapa kali ku jenguktanah perkuburan orang islam sekitar bandaraya. Memberi peringatan kepada aku yang akan datang masanya yang aku pun akan meninggalkan semua benda yang kuanggap penting dalam hidup ini. Kenalan ku LOLOQ (ROSLI bin KHAMIS) adalah yang terbaru untuk meninggalkan kita. Kami sempat berbual mengenai penulisan lirik semasa beliau masih ada dan aku sempat jugak berlakon dalam filem DIVA POPULAR arahan Erma Fatima bersama beliau. Mungkin ramai yang merasai, sekumpulan mengingat dan segelintir tak ambik pot pun, tapi hakikatnya adalah salah satu tenaga kreatif terbaik negara ini sudah tiiada. Beliau menulis lirik yang menjadi nyanyian berjuta rakyat negara ini. Harapan aku adalah kita jangan biarkan legasinya pergi begitu sahaja. Mari kita sedekahkan beliau Al-fatihah dan kenang beliau dalam doa kita. Mari kita ceritakan kepada anak, cucu kita tentang kehebatannya satu hari dahulu.

"Dulu ada seorang penulis lirik hebat kat Malaysia ni, Loloq namanya. Madah didalam liriknya amat menusuk kalbu... cuba kau dengarkan lagu nyanyian semua penyanyi hebat negara ini... kesemuanya pernah bekerja dengan hamba allah ini." kata seorang bapa kepada anaknya apabila mendengar sebuah lagu dendangan M.Nasir.

Ya kita semua akan mati,tapi ini tak bermakna aku akan duduk sahaja menunggu ketika itu, aku akan terus berjuang untuk melakukan kerja-kerja terbaik agar mungkin ianya boleh memanafaatkan orang yang memerlukannya.

Aku akan mementingkan famili aku. Kerana mereka amat penting bagiku. lebih penting dari wang ringgit dan kekayaan dunia. Pabila ada di antara orang diluar memandang aku sebagai satu BENDA, mereka senentiasa memandang aku sebagai CINTA.
Korang semua boleh kata apa-apa pun. Itu hak korang berkata apa-apa, berfikir apa jua. Tapi jangan kacau hak aku. Jangan bagi susah perjalanan seni ku. Jangan mendengki ku. Berikan aku kritikan untuk aku menjadi lebih baik, aku menyukainya tapi kalau kau kurang ajar... terimalah reaksi ikhlasku.

Loloq aku tabik kau, aku hormati kau kerana sanggup hidup dan mati sebagai anak seni. jasamu pada bangsamu takkan ku lupai. Rehatlah sekarang sahabat.

Loloq is survived by wife Hariah Yaacob and 3 children - Krsty Nur, 11, Jaevn Nur, 8 dan Yasha Nur, 6.
He was buried Wednesday, 31st Januari, at the Muslim cemetery in Bandar Baru Sungai Buloh.

Semalam aku pergi melawat sahabatku Rosyam Nor yang baru sahaja kehilangan ayahnya. Aku melihat mukanya tenang bila menyalam tangannya, tapi bila kudakap dirinya dapat ku rasa sebak didadanya. Aku ucapkan takziah kepada beliau serta Naa Murad dan JIt Murad yang juga kehilangan ayah mereka. Mari kita sedekahkan Al Fatihah bagi mereka.
Aku tertanya diriku sudahkah ku bersedia untuk melihat sesiapa dalam keluargaku pergi. Satu persatu wajah mereka muncul dari ayah ku, ke ibuku, ke adik-adik ku, ke keluargaku sendiri adakah aku cukup kuat untuk melihat mereka pergi. jawapannya tidak. Aku masih belum sanggup melihat sesiapa pergi kerana rasanya belum cukup masa yang dapat ku bersama diri mereka... Apa yang boleh aku lakukan?.... STOP TAKING LIFE FOR GRANTED.... bila-bila masa aje kita boleh jalan. so kenalah buat persediaan dan jangan buang peluang yang kita masih ada untuk menghargai apa yang kita ada dan jika ada sesuatu yang kita nak capai , let's do it now rather than tomorrow or later.... because we donno wether we got tomorrow or not.

Susah betul rasanya nak mula blogging tahun ini. berat jariku nak menaip abjad-abjad di laptop powerbook g4 aku ni.
Jiwa kacau. Banyak benda bermain di minda. Aku fikirkan semula apa niat aku adakan blog ini sebenarnya. Aku pertimbangkan apa yang penting bagi hidup aku. Adakah sekadar mahu berkongsi informasi ataupun mahu meransang perbincangan sihat. Pada usia aku yang meningkat ni, sanggupkah lagi aku nak melayankan karenah orang-orang yang sengal dan selalunya anonymous.Aku bukan seorang yang senang marah but i know i have a mean streak in me bila i am pushed into a corner. Saya tak suka berdendam atau menyimpan benci di dalam hati, kerana 'Benci' itu membuat kita jadi orang yang kecil dan tidak dapat maju di dalam hidup kita. Tak memberi reaksi emosi bukan bermakna aku tak kisah. Aku cuma lebih suka memikirkan jalan penyelesaian daripada memberi fokus kepada masaalah atau cemuhan itu sendiri.Apa dah jadi dengan negara aku. Aku cinta negaraku. Tapi aku rasa dah makin tak selamat, terutama sekali bagi anak-anak kita. Aku ingat dulu, mak bapak aku benarkan aku explore dunia ni... dengan bermain di padang tanpa kawalan mereka, jalan-jalan di pasar malam itu salah satu aktiviti yang menyeronokkan bagi kami sebagai kanak-kanak. Tahun baru disambut dengan berita yang mengacau ketenteraman jiwa, benazir bhutto dibunuh, satu lagi anak kecil 'Sharlinie' hilang, hindraf dan ancaman rusuhan, menteri kesihatan kena skodeng, Lingam dan handphonenya, faizal tahir bukak baju (ini pun boleh jadi hal) dan lain-lain lagi.
Kadang-kadang aku berfikir adakah semakin maju negara kita ni, semakin jahanam perangai penduduknya ataupun memang selama ni dah jahanam cuma sekarang ni baru keluar media dan baru sampai kat telinga kita, ATAUPUN kita telah menjadi orang yang suka mencari keburukan orang lain dan lupa untuk menggunakan masa kita dengan bersyukur kepada tuhan kerana pemberiannya.
Kalau kita asyik fokus pada benda buruk aje memang dah takde maknalah usaha kita didunia ni. Jadi, walaupun masih peka pada apa yang berlaku, aku akan memberi fokus kepada benda-benda yang positif dan insya'allah aku akan dapat menyebar keceriaan kepada sesiapa yang mencarinya.
Selamat tahun baru kawan-kawanku, cekalkan hatimu untuk menghadapi tahun yang baru. Terimakasih kerana terus menyokong perjuangan seni aku. masih banyak yang aku nak capai dalam hidup ini, masih banyak benda perlu aku pelajari. Dan aku akan terus maju dan tidak membuang masa dengan komplen aje tentang apa benda yang aku tak puas hati tapi sebaliknya melakukan sesuatu tentangnya. Kita kena buat sesuatu.
Janga lupa tengok filem arahan kawan aku 'CUCI' januari 24 ini. Satu percubaan yang bagus untuk kali pertama.

Insya'allah pada hari sabtu 3 hb november ini akan bermulalah satu lagi perjalanan sebuah filem yang saya rasa mungkin menjadi salah sebuah filem terpenting saya, kerana topiknya amat dekat di hati saya iaitu perhubungan di antara seorang bapa dengan seorang anak. Kisah-kisah tentang kekejaman ke atas anak-anak kita telah mendorong saya untuk melihat semula perhubungan saya dengan keluarga dan membuat saya menilai betapa pentingnya kehidupan berkeluarga dalam hidup saya.

Papadom adalah kisah mengenai seorang bapa 'workoholic' yang bekerja keras untuk memberi kesenangan dunia kepada keluarganya tetapi satu hari kehilangan isterinya. P.RAMLEE THE MUSICAL. Another proud moment for Malaysians.

It's not a malaysian going to space (i still however feel very strongly that it should have been me in that Soyuz) but this is to me an equally as important landmark in the history of malaysian arts. P.RAMLEE THE MUSICAL WAS SOLD OUT FOR THE WHOLE RUN ON THE NIGHT IT OPENED.

Needless to say being a musical slut myself, I've seen it twice and all i can say is that, the more i see it, the more i love it and my love affair with our very own legend P.RAMLEE is rekindled again. A man who was leaps and bounds ahead of his time. He knew what he wanted to see in a Malay Movie and he gave his movies all a special something (regardless wether it was one of his better work or his worst). This musical is a celebration of the legend and also a brief insight into his life's journey. The directors did an outstanding job briinging to life the story. Many clever cinematic like techniques were employed for the massive istana budaya stage. I am in awe and forever will be a fan of the outstanding mind belonging to Adlin Aman Ramli and Zahim Al Bakri. Kudos also to the Production designer , Raja Malek for his wonderful set designs and clever staging of them. These are the same people who helped conceptualise PGL the musical. I predict they will all get their respective datukships within the next five years if they keep this up.

As Adlin said while we were talking about the play the other day, it was a daunting task for him to intertwine a script about P. Ramlee's life and his journey through it with his 4 loves within a 3 hour time frame. In my view he did a fine job an no one scene was more memorable than those with his final muse SALOMA played by the wonderful Liza Hanim. Oh my god Liza Hanim is so gila babi good ok! There are moments she even looks like saloma from afar.The directors have done a fine job with her. I look forward for Liza's star in acting to shine even brighter with performances like those.

Thank you to Anne and the rest of the gang for organising the kodoks buka puasa at the great eastern mall semalam. Memang seronok gua dapat berjumpa dengan kengkawan yang dah lama tak jumpa. Thanks to Amylea AF dan Aizat AF kerana datang juga. You all memang kodok. Macam gua jugak. heehee. Gua also harap you all enjoy the gifts yang gua dapat bagi hari tu sebagai kenang-kenangan hari berbahagia itu.

Untuk mereka yang tak dapat datang semalam, esok ada satu aksi rambang berbuka dengan cipkodok lagi, tapi yang ni ala ringkas dekat NZ CURRY house dekat dengan office gua. Masa, sebelum buka ler... kalau tak tahu waktu buka... tanyala kengkawan yang berpuasa...

Anyway my life currently is back in full gear. LOS dan FAUN sudah siap edit dan sudah bersedia untuk dubbing DAN lepas raya gua akan memulakan penggambaran filem terbaru gua yang berjudul PAPADOM. Kisah seorang pengusaha Nasi Kandar di Pulau Pinang yang terlalu kuat bekerja sehingga melupakan tanggungjawabnya sebagai bapa dan suami, akhirnya satu tragedi memaksanya mengubah caranya dan menjadi bapa terlampau misali. Nantikanlah dia di gerai-gerai vcd cetak rompak berhampiran jika tidak berperikemanusiaan.

Hi there it has been an interesting trip to fukuoka thus far because there have been loads of stuff happening. Besides the film festival there is also a cultural exchange programme with thailand and India.... really cool. So everyday ada dance and other performances there.

Some really great movies from Asia, termasuk juga some from iran and iraq. Memang menarik melihat filem diorang kerana ianya memberi gua sedikit insight on how they think and since their movies are mostly about human issues, a little bit how the people live in that part of the world. Walaupun iraq sedang menghadapi kesusahan gua amat kagum yang karyawan mereka tak give up berkarya. More power to them.

Sekarang ni gua nak menjemput sesiapa rakyat Malaysia (student or otherwise) yang berada di Fukuoka dan yang belum sempat menonton filem Sumolah untuk datang esok ke El' Gala Hall 17 hb September, pukul 7.00pm. Sebuah lagi filem dari malaysia arahan Deepak Kumaran Menon 'Dancing Bells' akan dimainkan pukul 10.30am on the 18th, juga di El Gala Hall. Sumollah ataupun LET's SUMO (japanese title) juga akan di mainkan on the 21st September di Solaria Cinema 1 at 4.00pm and again on the 24th Sept at the Nishitetsu Hall at 1.15pm

Assalamualaikum dan harapnya semua sihat-sihat belaka. Hari ini adalah, hari pembukaan festival filem Fukuoka dan saya berasa amat nervous sekali untuk mempertontonkan filem saya ini kepada masyarakat Jepun, walaupun Sumolah is out of competition. It's been a year since the last time i was in fukuoka and it is nice to be back. Festival filem Fukuoka tahun ini bertemakan 'wanita dan tarian' dan Filem Malaysia yang berada in competition adalah filem Dancing Bells dari Deepak Kumaran Menon. I hope he does well. It will be great for Malaysia.
Fukuoka currently is quite hot and dry but walking down the streets of tenjin in downtown Fukuoka brings back so much fond memories of shooting Sumolah here. The Fukuoka film commission which helped us a lot during the shooting of Sumolah, has invited Sumolah to be presented to the residents of the city of Fukuoka.
Yesterday i met with Mr. Ariga from Touch Planning (himself a film director having recently shot a movie based on a Manga) and he has agreed to be our sales agent in Japan. This is great news for us and Malaysia as it is not easy to get a sales agent to believe in a relatively unknown Malaysian film. Since there is many other forms of deployment of a film besides the cinema here in japan, he believes he can make some headway with our film to also be released on the dvd market which is huge (because there is no piracy in japan) , the internet, broadband tv, video on demand etc. This is exciting news, plus i have also brought some Malaysian movies for him to consider from Mamat Khalid, Ahmad Izham, Bade. I hope to bring more movies in time to come.

The many people i've met from the organising committee who have seen the movie, really loves the movie. They actually thought it was very funny. Tonight i had supper with the guy who is running for Mayor of Fukuoka, Mr Takayama Hiromitsu, who seem to have taken a liking to me mainly because I am Malaysian. Most of our conversation revolves around how he is such an admirer of Tun Mahathir and how he loves Malaysia because the people have warm hearts.... hmm.. masih lagi ke?... Are we still like that? Or are we too becoming too money hungry that we have stop being the legendary gentleman of Asia. I will keep you guys updated as the days go by.

Hi gang this is afdlin shauki checking in after a long break. I have been going through many new phases in my life and i am sure the future will be great. First of all i'd just like to say that i am sorry for what happened on the 27th August an urgent matter arose, a friend needed help so i had to be there for him, so i spent some time scuba diving on an island with Hans Isaac who is currently not feeling so hot after his breakup with his former girlfriend. Since gua pun baru habis intensif stress di studio shooting actorlympics so bolehlah pi but little that i know on the island especially the resort which i stayed at, which was the Arwana, takde connection internet yang boleh diharap. So i am sorry for the missed date.... but to those of you who had nasty things to say about my absence, i didn't start this blog for you, i started it for myself.. so if you don't like whats happening here there is a billion other blogsites which may interest you. So bring your hate elsewhere, this blog is for happy cheerful people. its people yang berhati bacin macam ni yang make me sick to blog anyways... but hey that's life on the net right.

There is much on my mind lately and the change that i have been talking about is that i don't want to work non-stop like before. You see i am a workaholic and i realise that because i put all i have in everything i do, my relationship with my family suffers. Of course i keep telling myself that the reason i work so hard is for them anyways but the real reason i work so hard is that i fear i won't be able to provide for them and thus lose what we have. But i have realised that i don't want to miss out on my family's life so i will try and be a more balanced person. Although many people want me to start my new projects like BIGFOOT : HANTU SEJARANG GIGI, BAIK PUNYA CILOK 2 & AH-LONG BUKIT BERUNTUNG THE MOVIE, i have decided to just take my time to start it. Watch the market a bit. i have decided to take it easier and put my family more in the front seat. Yes i have been spending more time with wifey and kiddies on a regular basis. Started tutoring Mia (8yrs) on her homework more regularly and helping lil Anais (4yrs) on her writing... because she s a bit shy of me... so far i am enjoying myself and stress levels are at an all time low.

The only thing that i am working on is Los dan Faun. Trying to get it ready so that it can get released by the year's end. I like this movie. it's fun and gila.

I have to say honestly that what happened to SUMOlah was very hard to swallow. It did take the wind out of my sails a bit and i needed to recover from the dissapointing box-office sales. I am a bit weary about making movies on my own again but i do belief if there are still people who believe in my movies i should and must fight for them.

How am i gonna be different from now on.

New Afdlin (the changes i am trying to implement) - 1. One month must have one holiday trip with family and one on my own. 2. Work only if the project is groundbreaking, exciting or interesting enough, must not take precedence over first change. 3. Changing lifestyle - eating habits and exercise in order to be healthier and possibly lose some more weight 4. work with younger talents to impart practical knowledge of film and entertainment industry.

These are some of the things that have been happening in my life and i really do believe that this year will be an exciting one for the entertainment industry. i still fight on eventhough i have taken some heavy blows this year. But i believe that i will bounce back. Not many people are given the same opportunities like me and i am very bersyukur kepadaNYa for all that HE has given.

Today i am leaving for BANGKOK to attend the launch of BRAVE and SUMOlah there. After that a flight straight from Bangkok to PENANG for the Malaysian Film Festival. SUMOlah has got 7 nominations, alhamdulillah insya' allah sangkutlah satu. Tapi kalau tak sangkut pun takpe dapat makan nasi kandaq Line Clear pun dah cukup baik dah. Congrats to Yasmin for Mukhsin, Shumi for Waris Jari Hantu dan Zarina for Chermin you guys deserve all the nominations. A bit upset that Kabil Kushry Kabil Igam not allowed for nominations... just watched it last weekend, not a bad movie... Rusdi Ramli was excellent in it. I think he will win best actor this year.

Oleh kerana berberapa masaalah dalaman dan luaran yang di hadapi sejak seberapa lama ini saya tak dapat membawa diri saya berblogging seketika. Kena pulih semangat sikit la seketika dan mencari sumber inspirasi baru untuk meneruskan perjuangan ini.

Semalam adalah hari yang amat menarik dan sibuk di Cannes kerana bintang-bintang hollywood terbesar dari filem OCEAN's 13 termasuk pengarahnya Steven Soderbergh telah menghadiri Majlis di Canes untuk membuat media Junket serta Premiere filem OCEAN'S 13 di Eropah. Nanti i story you some more. For now check out the photos.
ME dan Partner di dalam dewan Grand Lumiere, untuk menonton Ocean's 13 buat pertama kalinya. Saya mengaku ada macam jakun sikit perangai pasal amat excited.
Walaupun besar gila dewan ini, ianya penuh sampai tersendat, kerana tengok free! tapi masuk hanya kalau kita ada jemputan. DAN KITA ADA!
Cita-cita gua dan ramai pembikin filem dunia untuk diiktiraf di Cannes dengan menerima Palme D'or. Cita-cita biar tinggi, dapat tak dapat belakang kira.
Di luar panggung Du Monde yang dikhaskan untuk filem-filem tidak bertanding. Kebanyakan filem kali ini dari negara-negara Afrika.
Di Belakang Palais (tempat Marche Du Film di jalankan) ni pula ada tempat parking bot mewah dan ianya dihuni oleh orang-orang kaya yang khabarnya bersedia untuk mengeluarkan wang untuk projek-projek filem yang menarik.
Huru-hara manusia berebut nak cuba masuk ke dewan tayangan.
Transformers juga berada di Cannes dan Trailer terbarunya yang memang meletop juga dimainkan. Di depan hotel intercontinental ini sejarah berlaku bila Don Johnson dengan selamba lalu didepan gua. GUA MINAT DIA masa Miami Vice dulu la. haha.

First of All before i begin i would like to make an announcement that we have just found out that SUMOlah has been accepted to the FUKUOKA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL. Yaay ! but that is not the point of the Sumolah exercise. We wanted Sumolah to be able to enter different markets and be chown in foreign cinemas , entertaining a whole new audience.
We are on our way. Itulah sebabnyagua di CANNES minggu ini, untuk memperkenalkan filem ini ke mata dunia. Tak kiralah kalau di CANNES orang tengik gua macam salesman, yang penting untuk gua capai harapan dan impian gua dan kengkawan gua.
Filem ini sudah bermain dalam minggu ke tiga di Malaysia. Sambutan untuknya masih ada walaupun tidak seperti dijangkakan. Kalau awak suka filem ini ataupun awak tak suka, tak pe. Filem ni bukan dibuat untuk menyedapkan hati semua orang. Tapi filem adalah simbol usaha saya untuk membawa filem kita keluar dari malaysia dan masuk ke panggung luar negara seperti di Eropah, Jepun, Australia, dll.

A big dream comes with big risk however, and with that i want to acknowledge the people who believed in this project and are still standing by its side. Insya allah kerja kita , jika berjaya akan di ingati ramai.

Assalammualaikum, memula, terimakasih sekali kepada kengkawan yang menyokkong SUMOlah dan sedang berjuang untuk memastikan ianya terus di panggung. Kami pun sedang cuba mempertingkatkan iklan di tv melalui tv3 dan astro ria minggu ini.... Yang pentingnya kami akan berlawan habis-habisan untuk filem iini. We are fighting for those of you who believe in this movie sehingga hari terakhir ianya di pawagam.
Saya sekarang sedang berada di sabah untuk rangka promosi ke Kuching, Kota Kinabalu dan Bandar Seri Begawan dan pada kali ini kontingen besar pelakon-pelakon turun padang untuk mempromosikan filem ini..
ON A TANGENT - In a way gua bersyukur yang benda ni berlaku dan mengingatkan gua yang sometimes we have to fight for what we believe in. And i am 100% aware of what all the parties involved are or are not doing.

EMERGENCY! HELP NEEDED! AFDLIN MINTAK TOLONG!

Despite doing everything we could to make SUMOlah a success we have run into a brickwall. It seems that the cinemas are telling us that their collection is quite low for the movie Sumolah and GSC has even applied for sumolah to be taken off its programming just after four days being shown. This is so wierd for a movie which has received many amazing good reviews and has been marketed beyond months. I am really stumped. Before analyzing this any deeper, i would like to make an appeal first :

If you want to see Sumolah and haven't. I would like to make an appeal to all my friends and kodoks to please go and see it with your family and friends before they pull us off the cinema. if they do this then the consequences could be dire.

If you loved the movie please tell everyone you know and get them to watch it because personally i think it would be a waste that such a meaningful movie does not meet more people.

I've never asked for help before but, i am appealing to your budi baik to help support sumolah. Will keep you guys updated on what transpires next. Moving to thailand now looks like a serious option.

I'm on my bed listening to 'dewi' from dewa 19's kerajaan cinta - which i think is a great frakking song!! - sambil berblogging kepada anda semua. Gua terasa macam nak mencuci kepala hotak gua sikit pagi ni. Setelah bekerja tak berhenti selama lebih enam bulan, ianya sesuatu yang melegakan untuk akhir sekali berdepan dengan laptop gua. I get to do a brief brain purge. which i forgot was the reason i started blogging in the first place.

On a tangent - My two daughters are the cutest in the world. bar none.

Bagai menunggu anak pertama dilahirkan, akhirnya sumo berjaya memasuki pawagam dan mula mengorak langkahnya bertemu dengan semua penonton yang sudah lama menanti. After so much drama, i am finally feeling at peace after the initial screenings for the press and the gala night (which was not without incident but i always believe in the saYing "What doesn't kill you will make you stronger!!") which i think went rather well.

I can't really do a review of my own movie but i can give you a review of the reactions after the movie. Except for those people who chowed earlier either because they takut to tell me what they felt about the movie, the ones that were left behind were abuzz, there was an excitement in their voices as they voiced to me how they loved SUMOlah. I think the best comment i received on the night was that SUMOlah was the most honest movie that they've seen in years and they were into Ramlee's journey.

There were other flattering comments as well, but i tend to take things with a grain of salt because as we know people can say a lot of things , we wish that they were all true, but you are prepared for those who aren't.

Kepada all my fans and friends (and also curious onlookers) Thank you for being patient with us all this while and now we present to you our hard work, blood , tear, sweat and more sweat , our baby yang walaupun tidak sempurna, kerana kesempurnaan hanya berada pada tuhan, mempunyai satu misi besar dan saya jamin amat menghiburkan.

On a tangent : Sedang gua duduk-duduk tadi gua terfikir... what if god took my vision away and made me blind?... how would i feel? boleh gua adjust ke tak atas kehilangan suatu benda yang gua take for granted almost daily.... WHat if he took away the sight and the hearing.... it would be like you are in prison and cannot communicate and see anything. that would be the true definition of being alone? kepada mereka yang terasa kesepian atau rasakan diri mereka keseorangan.... what would you do if it happened to you?... Scary thought but worth the time to reflect upon it.

Sawadeekap from Bangkok, It's me after a blistering hot launching ceremony of BRAVE / BERANI near the world trade centre here.We have been shooting for almost three weeks and the tempreature here in bangkok is 40 degrees celcius consistent.
Mak aii berkuap telor eden ni haa (excuse the expression)!!! But the launch went really well All 7 television networks from thailand and all the press from here showed up and we are confident we are going to be famous here eventhough h sepatah haram of what they are saying kita tak faham!! they might be saying " if you see this people walking the streets of ratchada do not approach them because they are muslim terrorists" for all we know! hee hee.
Awie as a Pailang / gangster 'JOHN' dalam filem BRAVE tengah makeup menunggu scene beliau.
Gua mengangkat tong minyak dengan mudah aje selepas training mengangkat berat selama enam bulan.
Sharifah Sofia yang berlakon sebagai 'MEAW' tergamam dengan kekuatan gua.
Stunt double gua yang akan melakukan semua scene-scene yang terlalu bahaya. Nasib baik ada dia..

But yeah very excited about this movie but not as excited like the twin double excitement happening in my heart in anticipation of the release of SUMOLAH this may!!!...
Akhirnya... gua akan melahirkan jugak.....Sebelum di bangkok ni however, gua baru je balik daripada LOS ANGELES dimana gua dapat bersua muka dengan..... (cue music) Hugh Laurie from the hit series HOUSE, M.Night Syamalan, Wes Craven director of the SCREAM movies as well as the nightmare on elm street series, Mark Wahlberg talking about his latest movie Shooter, Seorang rapper bernama MIMS, Charlie Sheen of platoon,spin city and two and a half men and a few more minor celebrities.
Fuhhh gua rasa macam groupie siot... actually perangai gua pun exactly macam groupy. Me and a few friends whom i shall not name, just in case diorang tak bagitahu wife or girlfiend diorang yang kita pegi jalan kat malam di sana, manage to go to the Viper Room! a club owned by johnny Depp. Tapi yang amat meriah sekali bagi saya adalah dapat pergi ke Laugh factory untuk menyaksikan live stand-up comedy. Semasa di sana gua juga sempat perform accapella dengan group barbershop quartet ni kat california adventureland. that was quite exciting pasal bila habis nyani tepi jalan tu baru gua sedar berapa punya ramai orang tengah tengok gua and the cheers and applause buat macam gua nak buat concert kat sana pulak. tapi gua rasa pasal diorang ingat yang meyanyi tu tourist amatur aje... diorang tak tahu gua berguru dengan pengetua AF5 selama 6 tahun tanpa satu album dulu. Ok check it out guys, i know a lot of you are going omigod! SUMOlah, open on the same month as Spidey and Pirates of the carribean!, possibly the two biggest film on planet earth this year but you know what guys, i have great belief that this year a simple malaysian film with a lot of heart like SUMOlah will be able to make us all proud and stand tall among the giants.
Sumolah di sumbatkan pada bulan may, tapi dengan sokongan awak semua kita boleh buat filem ini filem terbesar untuk Malaysia tahun ini, JIKA AWAK SUKA FILEM INI... BAGITAHU SEMUA RAKAN-RAKAN AWAK. Let everybody know. Tell them to go watch it in the cinemas. VCD atau DVD tu bonus.... cuba tengok di panggung.

We took a big risk investing greatly in this movie to prove that, people will appreciate it if filmmakers put the effort to up their production values and couple it with good story telling. Apa lagi nak cerita... Ohh bulan Januari dan Februari aktiviti gua di penuhi oleh penggambaran filem cuci. filem arahan Hans Isaac yang pertama dan kita mengharapkan yang terbaik buatnya. Pelik jugak bekerja dengan beliau sebagai pengarah kerana untuk empat filem sebelum ni gua direct dia, sekarang kena terima arahan dari beliau. Tapi kawan-kawan tetap memberi kepercayaan kepada hans kerana he's got his own way of doing things. Hi gang, missed you guys... haven't purged my mind in a while but i think the time has come for me to share a little bit before i completely lose my mind and my head behaves like a mongolian model in Malaysia. Stress gila doesn't even begin to cover it. But then again having said that, this is what i asked for, so i will face the music no matter what.

Note to my wife :
Before i start i just wanna say to my wife (if she is reading this) that i am sorry for not being there for her more, for being away so much and not providing her with the companionship and support she deserves and needs, for not remembering sometimes, the little things that she tells me or ask of me to do. The reason of too much work is really lame i know but i feel there is much to do if we want an improvement in the quality of our lives and if we want for the entertainment industry to achieve a level where creative Malaysians are both locally and internationally respected and recognised. I thank her for all her sacrifices towards our partnership and i recognise her efforts and will do better in providing her more support. I will make an effort to show more appreciation, because ma, " i don't want you to feel like i take you for granted. Please know that it is not easy for me too, being away from you and the kids. Watching them grow and develop into beautiful human beings, glimpses at a time, is constantly heart breaking for me.. I will do better and be better at this i promise you. I want you to know that i am also determined to see you win. Love u ma."

Note to cyberspace :
You know, we all think we know what pressure and stress truly is until we experience 'more pressure and stress!' then we go, "oh my god, my life is so tough! and why can't it be as senang as all those people who have humongus houses at Bukit Damansara or Damansara Heights". I get treated so badly as an artiste. My intellectual property is not respected by the powers that be. Then you go to Jakarta and you see the homeless street kids and you go to bangkok and see how security is so tight due to the new years eve bombings, that eventhough the good natured people of thailand try to hide it, they are now starting to question how come their once safe lives could now be jeapordised by a few irresponsible people. Jadi lagu mana we all look at it, the only thing that is certain is death, so as long as there is life in this body, things can't be that bad and you can be certain no matter how bad things are for us, there are always others worse of than us. Wallahualam

As for my Appearance on the progamme SENSASI, many people have asked me why i supported prof. when my comedies are different from his, well my reasons are simple, the ill reseached comments and views of the two hosts infuriated me more than the proffesor's, their line of questioning did not incur set a course where i could open a discourse on quality of work, cinema language, production values (all of which i have issues with the proffesor's movies). As for the lawak kampung and lawak urban, i agreed with him that he was targeting a section of the market which craved for that sort of thing but i do believe that makes him more businessman than filmmaker. let's face it guys as much as we don't like his movies, the majority off the masses (children included) still syok dengan stail dia. If not his movies won't reach box-office kan. In fact the collection for his movies, still tops my movies.... it doesn't make his movies better, but economically if some investor had a couple of million to do business with, he will go to proff not i. Unless my box-office tops his, his type of movies will always be around because the the numbers show the majority of the market is still with the prof. So how la brown cow...

Some exciting news though, i have just flown back from bangkok and i have just signed an M.O.U to produce, co-direct and co-star in a thai movie called 'BRAVE' . It is an action movie (MUAY THAI) and it will star the number two stuntmen in thailand and TONY JAA's (of ONG BAK and TOM YAM GOONG fame) sparring partner, Michael B. I am so excited to tears that such an opportunity has arisen as i believe, that if done well, it could lead to probably something bigger. I will call for an open casting session for a Malaysian female actress who we will get to be in the film as well. Any suggestions on who you guys would like to see in a locally produced international film?

I suddenly feel the obligation on my person to keep coming up with good movies because of all the accolades. What i do not want is for people to expect me to come up with the same kind of thing over and over. I am a person who gets bored very easily when i feel i am doing something which is not challenging or something which i feel i have done before. So that is why i am constantly trying to do new stuff. My predicament, i feel is, I wanna do some serious stuff this year, besides the comedy stuff which people have always known me for, but i know most people will still expect it to be a comedy. I think these people will be somewhat shocked, but i am adamant to succeed! and i am certain people will enjoy the new experience.. Hey P.Ramlee did both serious and funny movies extremely well, so it CAN be done. It's not anything new.

Alhamdulillah for my three awards at the Anugerah Skrin, i feel really gratified that the jury GOT THE MOVIE and what it was trying to say. It was never just a comedy and i am so happy that at last our efforts were recognised, having said that, just imagine that BULI BALIK never got the nod to go to the ASIA PACIFIC FILM festival because they feel a pontianak reflected us more as Malaysians . All i can say is...The selectors can imperiously kiss my brown buttocks for all i care.

Interesting story i heard recently about ANG LEE who was in this country to shoot parts of his new spy thriller 'LUST' with Tony Leung. Apparently, after shooting concluded here, ANG LEE has vowed never to return here ever again!! so saaad.
The reason (i asked in wonderment) i have been told is that the ministry of home affairs demanded to view all of his rushes! (film negatives to all those non film people out there). I guess because they want to check if ANG LEE had shot anything offensive about Malaysia, like putting the twin towers near a river in Melaka. SO i guess let's all just forget about any more hollywood money or technology transfer coming into this country ever again, for now. With all our red tape, Malaysia will never be an attractive venue for international film companies to shoot their productions here, eventhough we have some of the best crew and facilities in the region. Not to mention some awesome locations.

Just got back from Jakarta for the Malaysian Film Festival there, and let me say, it almost was the biggest waste of time for our movie industry professionals to go there, because when Kekwa decided to take over the event, it became a textile (batik and songket) and malaysian fashion festival.

I guess not enough foresight caused for the powers that be to schedule our little Malaysian festival at the same time as the Jakata International Film Festival. So, next to no one turned up to most of our screenings. The screening for BULI was done on a monday morning during working hours and we had 5 people watching it. Looking back, i wasn't even sure wether they were Indonesian or were just the FINAS workers who were taking care of the film's projection. We were lucky however that we had some friends in the indonesian film industry who got some local film students to attend for us. In one incident however, the film students from the jakarta's film academy who attended the festival were basically forced to come out of the screening hall of Pontianak Harum Sundal Malam 2 to go and watch a fashion show next door because there was nobody there and some Kekwa people were unhappy. The screening of the film was delayed by three hours. Oh did i mention that they made Pak Selamad Rahardjo (One of Indonesia's premiere film icons), who was there for a dialogue session post movie screening, was forced to watch the fashion show as well. A gentleman and a very sharp man, pak selamad i saw was quite visibly upset as his intention to be there at the jakarta international convention centre that day was purely for the film festival. To not make us feel left out, other malaysian artistes were also treated really poorly to the point that we felt like we were there as decorative figures to make some people look good. People who didn't even care about what is currently happening in the malaysian film industry. Some of the KEKWA people we met didn't even care to say hello to us there, I guess that would have taken up too much off their shopping time.

Me and Hans went to a night screening of BULI at Planet Hollywood KC21 Jakarta and managed to meet up with a few MEDIC students there who told us that they found out about the event by chance. They came in 1 hour late because they had just found out from an embassy guy who they had just bumped into.

I really feel that there were some people on such a power trip at that event in Jakarta, and they used the celebrities and film workers to make them look good, but have no respect for or care for what we do.

I guess I don't even have to mention that no thought or proper planning was put into the whole fiasco in jakarta, for example the door gift for unsuspecting atendees of the festival was a pewter bottle opener with the KLCC on it. Most softdrinks have screwtops on now. the only drinks which would really need bottle openers would be beer and soy sauce (KICAP TAMIN) bottles. Isn't that an odd gift coming from a muslim country. Now they are already talking about doing a Malaysian Film Festival in London, i think the malaysian students' association there could organise the event better than the ministry people here. We need people with passion to work on something like this.

In closing, the Aungerahs were great, but i felt what really made the night for me was the opportunity to sing with my old pal Zainal Abidin, it really brought me a lot of joy and took me back to a place where malaysian music was truly beautiful, the ikhlas concert. i shall never forget performing there and i thank god once again for letting me experience all this in my life and for all his blessings. Alhamdulillah.

Oh well, i am off to MATAKING, Sabah to dive again for a couple of days.... to clear my mind a bit from all the clutter and to experience god's greatness underwater. Will be safe.

Yes it is true, i am doing my fair share of travelling these days as the completion of Sumolah draws nearer. I am currently in the SKY LOUNGE of the Bandar Seri Bagawan Airport waiting for my flight to Kota Kinabalu to pick up my kids who i miss so sorely. I miss them so much that it feels like i have been missing an internal organ which helps me breathe easier and a part of my heart which makes me whole.

I have been here for a show for Brunei Shell Marketing department but i received news that CICAKMAN is da bomb back home. This is so awesome. I saw the movie last week and told Yusry that he had done something really imressive for the Local Film industry and believed that it will do well. I am not saying that the movie was perfect ( my movies aren't perfect either) i did have some issues with the quality of acting in the film (AC, my friend, but in cicakman his characterisation was sadly annoying. Fasha Sandha i felt was horrendous in this one. Aznil irritated the hell out of me) but understandably Yusry is a technical director as opposed to an actor's director but looking at the bigger picture, this movie was outstanding for what it is, the first truly local CGI fest! and it really breathes the slogan NEW ERA FOR MALAY MOVIES and i personally believe it will be a hit with kids and malaysians in general.

Word on the grapevine is that CINTA is also a big hit in the country and this makes me really glad to know that the industry is alive and well and the support for it is forever growing.For your info Cinta is directed by Khabir Bahtia an excellent Indian Director who has now made malaysia his home. We worked as co-directors on my talkshow BILA LARUT MALAM before and am so glad that he has finally made a cinema feature. This has made so excited to come back and play.

If you ask me, the only way to experience a movie is through the big screen unless you have a kick ass hometheatre system that is. Still there is no substitute for going to the movies and sharing a couple of hours with a few hundred people, going an a similar journey with them, feeling the same feelings as them. I don't know if you realise this but for those few hours we as a people collectively through our minds have become one and is sharing one experience. freaky shit.

Thanks to all of you who have been supporting us in the film industry and your continued support i believe, is starting to pay dividends in the form of BETTER MALAYSIAN movies coming out. Although there will still be some crappy ones,good is starting to overpower evil. Let market forces rule their fate as it is the great equilizer and the key to weeding out serious karyawans from the, come to play-play and make fast buck types.

The new FINAS wajib tayang rule however is not helping independent producers, it is destructive and needs to be reviewed. Increase the number of theatres for malaysian movies since there is a surge of them, insteat of cutting the time one movie is shown before the next wajib tayang movie is shown. Currently one malay movie a week is the wajib tayang practice. How the hell are malay movies suppose to make their money back in such a short time. To help the industry, the government should by law encourage the exhibitors to do like the Thais and Koreans, increase the number of cinemas for local movies. For example, If an exhibitor has 11 theatres per cinema chain make 5 halls available for local movies and 6 for international releases. Can Malaysian Movies sustain the numbers to keep four theatres open, with your ongoing support and current market trends, the answer is HELL YES! Or the way the government can help is do like what the indonesian government used to do, BAN all international films from releasing in their country and maybe then we can finally see how much money local movies can really make. We don't want to go to that extreme, but those are steps which will move in favour of local filmmakers rather than always making us take whatever scraps that the exhibitors will give us. Something drastic needs to be done to sustain this malaysian movie boom and to further excite more Malaysians to watch more Malaysian products. That will encourage better quality products to come out because there will be more money in the industry. Who knows, the second coming of the Golden era of local films might be right upon us.

MY SINGAPORE FLING! A weekend to remember for a long time.

First of all, before i start, i wanna give a shout out and a big Assalammualaikum to all my Singaporean Fans and KODOKS that i managed to meet with during my break in Singapore the past couple of days. You guys were awesome and it was ultra-terrific to finally be able to meet you guys.

How can one describe the feeling of sheer joy, the feeling of pride and the awesome experience of being there in singapore to support my friends and the group of outstanding Malaysian artistes who performed their hearts out at the Singapore Esplanade for the past four performances of Puteri Gunung Ledang the musical. DAHSYAT DAN MEMBANGGAKAN!!!!

Even the Guy who runs the ESPLANADE (a huge theatrical space much like Istana Budaya, which has hosted many international theatre productions ) was so terkejut (in awe) at how the singaporean audience responded at the show : STANDING OVATION for all shows!!! gempak siut. And i have been made the official groupie of PGL, pasal muka i memang tak tau malu.... as my wife cakap. One of the top Malaysian celebrities a groupie... PERSETANKAN! aku kata, aku bukan artis kontrol macho dan tak berperasaan... KERJA YANG BAGUS kita sokong habis-habisan.

I manage to wrangle some tickets to watch the matinee in singapore so i took all my visionworks staff there and we had a ball. Sampai terujalah sehingga tak nak balik the following day. We managed to wrangle our way into the VIP box for the last nite’s performance and although the viewing was limited we were barely three metres away from the stage and we found another level of appreciation for the performance. Me and my lovely wife were in PGL heaven and loving every minute of it.

What i was really surprised with was how the Malaysian artistes were treated there. We would assume because we think the singaporeans are all kiasu that diorang pun sure kontrol-kontrol gak but to the contrary... they were amazingly warm and supportive. I think my beautiful wife was also kinda surprise at how well the stars were treated there, kat Malaysia ni, unless u are MAWI or DATUK SITI... Nak suruh orang tepuk tangan pun... berlepek-lepek bunyinya.

The main cast were Amazing as usual.TIARA AND STEVE were reprising their roles, which i can never see anybody else doing because they have stamped their mark and sheer class into their characters. Stand out performances came from the ADIPATI (AC MIZAL), MAHMUD of MELAKA (ADLIN AMAN RAMLIE) and to my surprise an exquisite performance from BAYAN (IDA MARIANA). Tapi yang amat outstanding adalah the CHORUS LINE (the dancers and extras to some of you). Komitmen diorang sampai berlenang airmata gua tengok. They really gave it their all, HEART, BODY SOUL and whatever else they can give.

As for my wife and me, well let’s just say we had a great time and loved our time together. She is my love, a great companion and I am so blessed to be able to experience life with her. Oh and she is a major PGL groupie too.

Thank you all for your posts and creative reasonings why one poster should be the one. It has given us a little insight to the workings of the minds of our friends and kodoks. More stuff will be coming your way, for example our first teaser trailer is ready for viewing. Our technicians are currently fighting over what is the best way to deliver it to you guys. But trust me kodoks it will be worth the wait. Ong gedeg gedeg gedeg!!

Last weekend i graduated from the Asiaworks Mastery course and i feel my paradigm shifting again. For those of you not in the know, Asiaworks is involved in self-development training programmes for the public and corporate sector all over the world. it is also involved in the character building modules for our national service programme.

Never before have i been around a group of people, so dedicated in creating a better society than these people; regardless of race, religion or creed.

You know, we go thru life thinking that we know what the world is about, what our life is about but due to our experiences and armed with this knowledge we build judgements and boundries that define who we think we are. Many a times we are so fixed with 'what we know' that no new knowledge or information can filter through. The problem is how much we know (or think we know) and what we let ourselves experience is just a speck compared to the actual knowledge that could be gathered out there.

Why do i care for some people and hate others?, why do i care for certain things and not others? Why do i entertain certain notions and not others? Why can't we take a little time off to care for the underprivilledge or the needy? Why do we not love ourselves, eventhough we say we do? Why some of us preach religion but are not practising what we preach? Why don't we challenge ourselves, to make us more balanced human being through ie religion , love, commitment to peace and justice etc?

Why do we judge people by their appearances? or even by what people say?... Must a Muslim be a terrorist? Are all Americans evil?..... Most of us in this world form our own conclusions and judgements based on information that are fed to us because we either don't have the capacity or are too lazy to get off our butts to actually experience it ourselves.

A Mongolian model gets murdered in our country... what do our internal voices say "thank god she's not Malaysian?... thank god its nobody i know?... thank god it wasn't me?".... Personally i was very disturbed that something like this can happen here in our country because i have always believed the propaganda that "Ini bukan budaya kita!". Agreed, the actions of a few does not constitute the sentiments of a nation but how the nation is reacting to this incident, is. It doesn't have to be just this incident but any other incident where public reaction is warranted.

So what is happening to our budaya? Obviously all the public service announcement ads are not working. So we go on with our lives saying.... "tulah siapa suruh reporter tu pakai seksi?" (different incident). Maybe we should start to care more about our fellow human beings regardless, maybe we should start living our slogans rather than just saying them, Maybe? it's just an idea. I don't assume to know all, only god knows all but we all have the ability to choose.

I am a Malay and proud of it but more so, i am Prouder to be Malaysian and i am commited to making this country a better, safer place to live in. Yes, i am but one person, but imagine if everyone started saying it. Imagine yourself saying it and then put to action your intention in whatever way no matter how miniscule. Wouldn't we just have ammassed an army of people who are committed to a better world, for us living now and our loved ones in the future.

Hi gang, kepada semua yang wished me selamat hari raya dan i tak sempat reply, SELAMAT HARI RAYA back. Sememangnya ketika ini ada satu pergolakan besar yang berlaku didalam hidup gua yang membuat gua sering bertanyakan kepada diri sendiri "Am i challenging myself enough in this life or have i let complacency set in?" ataupun didalam bahasa melayunya " Pak Abu tempang selalu pergi gunting bulu hidungnya kat kedai Muthu". Kadang-kadang gua rasa macam hidup gua sekarang dah macam 'On Autopilot'. Tersangat rutin, takde cabaran, yang mengingatkan yang kehidupan yang diberikan tuhan kepada kita ni fragile dan pendek.. so why aren't we living it to the fullest.
How many people out there actually actively think about their mortality? how many think that "if i don't ask for forgiveness from so and so today, my life might end today and i would not get a chance to... ever". How many of us keep putting off saying i love you to our parents, to our spouse, to our children or even to a potential life partner because "i can tell him/her later lah!"... But come LATER you might be in ICU or 'tergolek dog' on the highway after being run over by sebuah lori menyeludup gula dan ayam.
I really think that many of us, myself included, have the tendency to drift and forget especially when REAL LIFE sets in, that once things get too comfortable or once we have something all the time, for example CLEAN AIR! OXYGEN! OUR FIVE SENSES, OUR LOVED ONES, FOOD ON THE TABLE etc. .... more often then not, we take all of these things for granted and we just don't give a damn about them. We think we have so much time to fix a wrong that has happened in our life..... we think sometimes that because we never get ill or hurt that we are invincible and are probably going to live to a ripe old age, but Allah swt can take as fast as he gives my friends...
SO why don't we just give a 100% effort to our lives if we want it better , let's make it BETTER .....NOW! not tomorrow, minggu depan la, lepas dapat gaji la,... all these reasons are merely excuses that stop us from really experiencing life to the FULLEST. And trust me my friends there is a lot to EXPERIENCE. Kebesaran Tuhan = The Glory of God.

And for those of you who are wondering. Yes i baru balik from another scuba diving trip.

Don't ask me to name the fishies, kami budak baru belajar. Penyu, Humphead and giant kerapu tu aje gua tau.... oh TITAN TRIGGER fish pun gua dah kenal, dive buddy gua kena attack dengan ikan tu so ada aksi bertumbuk dengan ikan dibawah air. Pelik pasal ikan tu nampak ganas but wadafak! ganas gila bila kita lalu rumah dia waktu dia menjaga telur dia. (hmmm... that sounded kinda rude)

On a completely unrelated note, I think some individuals in the Malaysian Film industry are like the lumut at the bottom of the boat pancing. First bang! orang ni, bang! orang tu kata filem diorang tak membayangkan budaya kita, then kena sound dengan menteri semua tersipu-sipu macam sotong takde tulang belakang nak ban orang ni orang tu dan akhir sekali selfish, kerana pilih filem diorang untuk pergi ke Asia Pacific film festival. BULI BALIK was not chosen as one of the entry because they deemed that it was not good enough to reflect our malaysian society so they chose Persona Non Grata, Castello, Pontianak Harum Sundal Malam 2, Bilut, and Gubra. Where i don't contest the validity of GUBRA and BILUT, i do also believe that BULI BALIK is good enough to represent the country.
Yes i am a bit emotional about my baby not being picked because i feel the movie would make a difference at the festival. SO now, once again FINAS gets to bring an entourage of people to the festival, half of which are not event relevant to the current film industry, give them a paid holiday to go shopping. I am disappointed with the selection, but my life will go on as i tell myself that i am in this industry to make a difference for the people and the old fogeys in the power positions will one day die and will not be able to fight the wake of revolution, when people demand them to be better than what they are now.
I know my heart may not be so sore in a couple of days time but as for now, the film industry has disappointed me so and I have lost respect and faith for many a people in power in the industry because at the end of the day whatever they do is all for themselves. All they think about is - How can i gain? How can i use my position to make me prosper? and not, how to make the Malaysian film industry better?.

And to think that i was afraid of SHARKS.....

Conquering my fear at last!... If i can do this, there's nothing you guys cannot do la.

Where i have been since early last week was at Pulau Perhentian Besar, trying to conquer my biggest fear. I'm glad to say that ALHAMDULILLAH, i did it! I actually freaking did it.
The most important thing i learned during my brief moment of insanity is that - Fear is a concept. It is not real. It is cooked up in our mind during it's idle time and is fuelled by the media hype and sensationalisation of shark attacks, stingray poking people's chest etc to sort of protect ourselves from ever wanting to come out of our comfort zone and to be safe players of life always. Granted fear is not all bad, as it also keeps us from being stupid 24/7 but in general fear is the reason why people don't learn and don't grow intellectually.
So here it is gang - my journey to become a PADI certified Open Water Diver. Hope you guys get something from this. From my greatest fear , to a growing rush of adrenalin and a blanket of calm at the same time.

Firstly.... Have a great and blessed ramadhan to all may we all cuci sikit sifat-sifat kita yang perlu di cuci tu.

OKlah down to business
Ramai yang mungkin bertanya kemana perginya cip kodok setelah membuat kitorang semua steam kodok dengan cliff-hanger ala Miami Vicenya awal minggu ni?

Sebenarnya apa yang telah berlaku pada malam STAKE-OUT tu adalah : After the car was spotted by one of BOB's friends, dia telah menelefoni kami dengan lokasi kenderaan itu. We went to the location to find the car and LUCKILY all its content too but BOB WAS MISSING. We latter found out that on the night he was last seen at that location, he was rushed by a group of people believed to be policemen and taken away. The curious thing about it is on the day we filed the missing person's report, which was one day after people there said he was taken, the police said they have no one by that name and description in any of the holding cells in and around KL. Hmm... how peculiar.

I was asked to say no more about this, so no more will be said. Alhamdulillah everything has somewhat returned to normal and i feel blessed that the lost items were recovered in such a short time. Thank you for all your kind thoughts and once again Happy raya and think happy thoughts

Last saturday a production runner working for me called 'BOB' (his real name will not be revealed here)RAN off with my Mazda MPV and a whole bunch of production lights, and equipment that was in it. GUA ni penyabar gila tapi bila sesuatu macam ni berlaku gua rasa panas sikit macam ada api sudah naik atas kepala. Vision Works adalah one of the nicer production companies around, i believe because we are a company that believes that people are our most important asset so we pay people what their worth and our profit margins are often small. Bodoh some of you might say but I think in production of a creative work we must take care of our raw material and in this case i mean people, but as god would have it, we KENA big time this time round, over 60 thousand ringgit worth of stuff.

BUT when shit like this happens, i question my sense of morals and judgement. Is it wrong to put trust in people and if so, what is the BIG lesson here?

I am just so thankful that no one was hurt or kidnapped or anything like that, because that is the van used to pick up some of the artistes.

I'm sure other people osso kena before but it still stings when it happens to you. Why is our country getting more crime infested? What can we do about it? how can we make our society more concious and make our beloved city, country a safer place?

For the life of me, when on the first day the MPV was a no show, we were really scared for his safety.... what if dia kena langgar ke? hapa ke? so we filed a missing persons report but when we found out he had a record with the police for being in possesion of stolen goods we suddenly went hmmmm. Now this guy has been working for us since april, he never struck us as a bad guy (but this could have been his MODUS OPERANDI) and he had many opportunities to steal something then, So why now? this baffles me.

Salah satu cinta gua adalah menyanyi dan ini satu aktiviti yang dah lama gua tak lakukan. Tetapi ahad lepas gua sempat melepaskan geram dan dendam gua dengan menyanyi lagu BAIK PUNYA CILOK di konsert gemilang Anugerah Era yang akan ditunjukkan hari sabtu ni,Jadi siapa yang berminat untuk melihat gelagat tiga jejaka pingitan freak out dan break it down, dijemput menonton beramai-ramai. Brader Awie tak dapat hadir so tempang sikitla but we had a great time nontheless. Ini ada berberapa gambaq time rehearsal.... gua ada rasa macam Mawi sikit pun ada. hee hee.
Nyanyi kodok jangan tak nyanyi!... Feeling tuu...

And i forgot to say last month, but my blog is ONE YEAR OLD already and still going strong and i would like to to thank all my friends. fans, KODOKZ, curious net users, accidental readers etc for keepin the faith and allowing me to be myself in this world we call cyberspace. Facing my Fear yesterday.

My number one fear is going underwater for long periods of time. the reason: JAWS 1, 2 and JAWS 3 3D, PIRANHA the MOVIE 1 and 2(flying fish). But besides that i have always thought that kenapalah people always have this constant need to always put themselves in an unnatural habitat and scubadiving ni pun memang termasuk dalam kes cari pasal yang terutama. Case in point Steve Irwin. But my good friend Harith wanted to do it as i think he believes, besides being a great recreational activity, it is a great way to meet tight bodied women. For the life of me i cannot imagine harith happily hovering underwater going "waa... look at that beautiful coral!". So, foolishly i decided, if he can do it, i might as well try.... After going thru the first five modules, let me tell you it was the scariest thing i have ever tried in my life. There were times i thought to myself "habis la kau kali ni afdlin!" and "why afdlin why?" ....to which i answered ... BECAUSE i am afraid.

warga KL sempat bergelak-ketawa dengan kitorang dan saya nak ucp thank you to all the KODOKs yang sudi menghadirkan diri ke Actor's studio tempoh hari... u guys are the best friends and fans a kodok can have. Yang penting gua harap you all enjoyed yourselves.

Pada ketika yang sama gua betul-betul bersyukur dengan rezeki yang tuhan berikan untuk mengurniakan gua dengan anugerah filem pilihan kaki wayang anugerah ERA untuk' baik punya cilok' dan anugerah-anugerah yang telah gua menang untuk filem festival lepas. Syukur alhamdulillah yang ramai orang sudah membuka mata dan minda mereka yang kerja filem ini bukanlah industri untuk yang plastik dan cosmetik sahaja. Dunia filem melibatkan karyawan-karyawan serius dan jujur ingin menghibur sambil berkarya naskah-naskah yang boleh mengubah persepsi rakyat Malaysia, meluaskan paradigma dan memajukan industri kita. Gua percaya, dalam masa terdekat, satu hari, kita juga boleh berbangga dengan karya-karya kita bila ianya menjadi suatu regional ataupun global hit. Bukan sekadar di festival-festival sahaja, tetapi memenuhkan pawagam-pawagam luar negara. Pada ketika ini, gua sedang melakukan pasca produksi untuk kedua- dua filem gua iaitu 'SUMOLAH' dan 'LOS dan FAUN' jadi tiap malam bersengkang mata untuk menyiapkan produk-produk yang mempunyai cita-cita besar dan insya'allah yang terbaik dari gua setakat ini.

Mula-mula orang gemuk menang award, Tahun depan yang tak cukup tinggi, tahun yang lagi satu terlalu gelap, terkurang rambut, terlebih jari tangan dan lain-lain lagi..... bakat menjadi ukuran! bukan paras rupa dan dengan siapa kita kena cium bontot dan bahagian-bahagian yang sewaktu dengannya.

2. You can get tickets from actor's studio. the phone number is 03-20941400 / 03-20940400. On the phone however, you can only book by credit card and inquire for available dates. If you want tickets better you physically go to Bangsar shopping complex actor's studio.

3. Actorlympics is going to be aired on NTV7 soon. 13 episodes. 1st recording will be at the end of the month.
